:(
17 years! WOW!!!! I am so very sorry for your loss of Abby, Alison. :(

Hugs to you!!!

What kind of bird is a minpin?

I am sorry to hear about your loss, Alison. Making that choice is one of the most difficult decisions that you can face as a pet owner. BUT, it is a gift that you give your pet when you can ease their suffering. I hope that knowing this helps ease some of the pain. Seventeen years is a long run for your little dog, but it can never be enough time...I hope your other pets can give you comfort in the days ahead.

Thank you all for your support and kind words. We had to put our other minpin down three mo ago when his cancer came back he was 15 and a half and very bonded to my husband Abby was more my dog .anyway I had said knowing that they were getting older that when the time came no more dogs. Well after Phoenix that lasted for two weeks and hubby was miserable with out his lapdog so onto craigslist we went . And we found Bentley a 5 lb Chiweenie who will be three on Feb 18 He is also totally bonded to hubby.and a complete lap dog. All I can say is thank god because I could not have taken coming home with no furry little dog to hold and pat, and spoil.:)

Im so sorry to hear this. I lost my dog in September and I still havent recovered. My heart breaks for you.

Megan Mango I am so sorry you lost your dog in Sept. It does hurt but I would never trade all the years and companionship that we had together. Have you gotten another dog?

Megan I'm so sorry for your loss as well. :( It takes a VERY VERY long time to get over the whole in the heart that those furry love babies leave in us. :(

Alison, that is just AWESOME that you found a new sweetie pie for you to spoil and cuddle with, even though you said Bentley has bonded VERY closely with your hubby.

I've lost 3 dogs over the past 10 years. :( We currently have 2, but I firmly believe that these 2 WILL be my last. I simply cannot go through so much grief so many times. But my current furbies are young, almost 4 and a little over 2, so hopefully they will be with us for a LONG time to come. :)

Over the many years we have had a lot of dogs and cats and other assorted critters thanks to me and it is hard to loose them. Bentley is very bonded to Ray however he is perfectly willing to come up in my lap and cuddle if Ray is busy elsewhere. Ray has always had a dog since he was little and I got my our first dog when we married 48 years ago. I guess I just can't go dogless and if something happens to us our daughter will take him and the birds so I don't want to push her too far over the edge. It has been a lot of years since we have only one fur baby in the house. Fortunatly he doesn't pay attention to the birds, except to see if they dropped anything good. I will try to have Ray post a pic of Bentley He kind of looks like someone created a dog with spare parts.

HAHAH....that makes Bentley sound like a Frankenweenie. :D Can't wait to see a picture (or more) of him. :)

I totally understand, I dont know if I will ever be prepared for another dog. Sometimes thats just the thing to help with the loss though. My moms little terrier was euthanized at 19 years old. That dog hated everyone but my mom and a year later she was still crying over it. I talked her into a puppy, and it really helped her.

Omg, so sorry, I really did think it was an abbreviation for a bird breed.

Goalerjones that's ok and thank you for you support. Miniture pichers look like doberman pinchers that you through in the dryer and they shrunk. They are actually a 400 year older breed than the full size doberman and are a german breed.:)

I'm sorry for your loss! 17 years is very old for a tiny dog like that! You must be a great doggy parent.

Im so sorry, just know he lived a long life and is no longer suffering. :(

Thank you and that thought is what helps:)
