I recently decided to adopt a conure, i went up to meet him the other day..
the story behind him is that he was a member for a four-flock family, they were all very very loved but the owner is elderly and recently had to be rehomed into a retirement home for sick elders.
all four birds are very bonded. theres two bonded cockateils, 18 years old and 20 years old. then there is winston the parakeet, and sinbad the conure, both are eight years old.
I went to meet sinbad and left with the decision to keep all four.
I dont like cockateils, and I've never been around a parakeet.
all of them know how to talk, do tricks, and step up of course, even winston the parakeet!
winston has a little telephone toy that he uses to communicate. there are numbers 1-8 and when you press numbers it makes animal sounds. 1 for a cat, 8 for a dog, so on.. if you ask winston "make a cat sound" he knows exactly which button to press. i've been warned to make sure the batteries never die, or he gets very very sad.
the only problem is that some of the birds say "asshole" lol
but I guess thats better than the F word right?
I might rehome the cockateils, but we'll see what things are like when i have them in my flock.
so now I have Button, my pineapple gcc, Loki, my yellow sidced gcc, Sinbad, my normal gcc, Winston ( ultra light 100s lol ) the blue parakeet, and two cockateils that I dont know the names of. :)

well congrats!:) i wouldn't be so shocked that the budgie can talk..lol a budgie holds the world record for knowing the most words! even over african greys!

at least you know they were well takin care of:) and you won't have to worry about teaching to step up and such now you just have to get them to work on trusting you:) i like cockatiels because they usually are amazing whistlers!

Wow! Good for you, but what a flock expansion!

I never was interested in cockatiels until Blanco flew up. Give them a chance, you may find them very easy company and quite affectionate. If they are mated, you might have cage decorations, but if they are a same sex pair, I understand 'tiels don't bond as exclusively as most species. My husband is fond of saying they are dumb as rocks, and they kinda are compared to a GCC or a Sennie, but in a very sweet way.

Give them all a chance, and don't make a quick, rash decision to rehome any of them. I'm not a huge Cockatiel fan myself, but I've seen a few that weren't horrid.

Congrats on the flock expansion!

Cocktails are a joy to have, trust me. Tweeters, RIP, was my best friend (a cockatiel), very sweet and always there for me. Don't rush to rehome them, let them get to know you first.
Congrats with new flock members! :D

I love my tiel too, unobtrusive clumsy thing that she is. IMO, I wouldn't rehome the tiels unless the absolute right home falls into your hands. This might sound bad, but they are at the very end of their typical domestic lifespan, and multiple rehomes at that age might be too much for them. If you keep them, chances are they won't be around much longer for you to tolerate, but they'd enjoy your care to the end! My vote is to enjoy their company and learn from them while you can.

Wow, that's quite a flock you have! I don't know how you keep up. :] Congrats though!

Totally agree with OtterKin. Also; how lucky are you?! haha I'm sure they're a handfull (I've got enough w just the two of mine) but it must be exciting having so many of them. Do you have like a bird room? Coz I've always dreamed of having one lol :P

I'm very close with my family and I'm currently moving back into their house. I have a spare bedroom with a lock on it for my birds safety.
I'll be moving my pets into there while I work and save money :)

Congrats on the expansion! Give the tiels a few weeks, you can't judge a bird in one vist. Who knows you might become a tile fan!

i know its a lot of birds.. but its worth it. :)

the only thing i want to finish my flock would be a few parrotlets.

if you ask winston "make a cat sound" he knows exactly which button to press. i've been warned to make sure the batteries never die, or he gets very very sad.

Sounds like Winston is smarter than some people I've met, lol. Congratulations and blessings to you for trying to keep the flock together. It's a wonderful thing you are doing. I don't know much about cockatiels, except that a friend has two of them and they are so so cute as a pair of friends. They walk around and follow each other around the living room and stay on a big white sheet. They whistle in a sweet very mellow tone, no screeching. The share a cage.

Congrats on your new fids :D. Even if you don't care for teils much, their average lifespan is 16-20yrs old. So even if they are not your favorite its not like you will have them for the next 20yrs. Who knows you may enjoy them. Thats so cute about Winston, give me ideas...

I'm surprsed nobody's said this already but WHERE ARE THE PICTURES?! X)

I myself have had my cockatiel since she was just a baby. I LOVE HER! She has been a huge companion for me and was there through some really rough times. I know how it goes when you go to pick up one bird and you end up with several more;) I just cant help myself! I hope that you new additions are wonderful for you and like the others say dont be to quick to rehome you might find a new found love!

I can see why they all came home with you! They are all so super cute! :D I have a soft spot for teils, they are adorable. How are you liking them so far?

I have a very soft spot for tiels! I love them dearly even with all the big birds we have, they're wonderful to have around!!! My Nico, Lutino Whiteface, flies to me and stays with me where ever I walk to in my house. I raised her myself and she's a little angel thats not going no where. I actually prefer them over conures as I'm not a big fan of them because I used to have them in the past.....

OMG, THAT LOOK EXACTLY LIKE MY PEPSI!!!!! I swere if we switched birds we'd never be able to tell the difference, except yours is smarter. Your green cheek is SO cute! So are your cockatiels! More pics please!!!!:greenyellow::greenyellow::greenyellow::greenyellow:

P.s if you go and get some parrotlets how many are you going to get because you got a big flock!:):blue2:

Great camera!

I want three parrotlets. :)
