Seeing these heart breaking images of Ukrainians fleeing with their pets made me realize I don't have a little transport cage for my birds. I suppose everyone should have one in case of emergency.

Makes me sad too. And yes carriers are one of the necessities for parrot ownership. Very crucial in case of emergency transport scenarios whether it be in the home or needing to go to the vet. It’s very important for birds to be desensitized to the carrier itself and trained to be inside even in the most tense situations where you’d have to put them inside quickly. But they should be trained enough where it doesn’t put them in a position of distrust or stress.

We use the fairly standard "Cat Carrier" as the size works well for our DYH Amazon.

The greatest error made is that it is only used for trips to the Vets Office. As stated above; it is important to develop a comfort so that the Parrot will load into the cage without question. This is best handled by introducing the carrier with food and water in it and use it as a second place to fly to on their own. It also works to travel with them to places other than the Vets Clinic so that they do not associate the travel carrier with just the Vet!

Good idea. I want something small (I have 2 budgies), with a perch and covered seed and water cups. Just in case.

I am so happy to see that people took their pets with them. During hurricanes, and natural disasters sometimes the pets get left behind in their houses that get destroyed. If found they end up in shelters, and aren't reunited with their families always. Then there are a ton of people that volunteer to help out at the pet recues. Its a really sad thing to see on tv.
