RIP Constantine: Jenday Conure
Just noticed that I have an unexpected visitor on the branches the girls play on; it is a praying mantis. I've no idea how it got in the house but it seems pretty intent on the flies that have been hanging around so I'm not going to evict my cool little roommate but I do have a question: Do conures eat bugs? Larvea I can understand but a 2 inch mantis? The girls haven't gotten close yet and have only passingly noticed it hanging on their branch but I'm wondering if I should save the mantis a slow death and take it outside or let it feast on flies if it's safe. Thanks!

I dont know about conures but Roc would eat it! If im not paying attention to him, he will eat the snails in the garden:eek:, which im sure isnt healthy. I dont know if it would even be safe fir them to eat if they wanted to. I'd prob jus put it backoutside (they dont bite, should jus crawl right on you).

Oh I love those :) I love handling them , they are so sweet and fascinating to watch !

I say save the poor soul and put him outside :)
Dont be afraid of him , its a weird feeling having them on you , but you get used to it and just watching them move about is soooo cool ,lolol. But FYI , they can move fast , lolol.
I think you should name him before letting him go , lolol.
How about Manny ? lolol.

Oh I'm not scared of him. Mantis are my favorite insects and I've had several females as pets throughout the years. I'm rather honored it chose to hang out in my "forest". The girls really aren't all that interested in it so I brought a leafy branch in for it to hang out on for the night. If I can find it in the morning, I'll let it go in the bushes by the lake. I'm still amused that it got into the house and went straight for the branches. It had to have been on the girls cages and branches for a few hours before I saw it.
