Hi Everyone,

I appreciate the great helpful resource of this forum.

I have an African Grey (that I've had since she was 8 weeks old).

I'm looking for a good avian vet in the Northern Virginia area.

I am going to need to CITES certify my grey since I will be relocating overseas for a few years, so I need a vet who can help me with these documents and who can add a leg band.

I have been very fortunate that all of my birds have been healthy and those who have gone on, lived good, long lives. In So Ca, we were blessed to have MANY avian vets to choose from, but we have moved up to the country, in Oregon, and in our area, there appear to be NO AVAIAN vets here! I keep calling places and asking, but no one knows of any. I keep getting referral to a particular vet in town (30 min away), but when I call them, I always get the same story...they USED to have one but haven't had one in YEARS! I really need to take my 3 yr old 'keet in for a ck up and can't find a vet anywhere local (within 30 miles) of us (Veneta area). I even called the local animal shelter and they had no idea either!

I have not visited vets in the OC area but have used All Pets Animal Hospital in Encinitas for about a dozen years. Brian Loudis DVM is Avian ABVP and highly recommended. Knowledgeable, very caring, and performs as much work with client observing as desired.

Encinitas a bit of a drive, hopefully you can find local alternatives.

I am in Utah and today I spent most of the morning looking for a vet for my Indian Ringneck- Guess what- NO VETS! Thats right there are no vets for exotics in utah unless you live directly inside the major city of Salt Lake. UGH....How depressing!!!

If there are no avian specialist vets, find a dog/cat vet who knows at least a little bit about birds.
