Thought I'd share! He's really good considering he's never flown before.

That’s wonderful! I hope you let him keep those pretty feathers :)

unfortunately I will have to clip him come spring. He is moving into my shop with perry and they both will need to be flightless for their safety (and everyone elses). I need feathered babies to help me run the shop keeping customers on their toes and a security alarm lol

Well, then I hope you let your other birds become flighted. It’s understandable why you have to clip them because in a shop, people are constantly coming and going and leaving doors open.

Beautiful!

Wow! Amazing.

wonderful! You can he has come a long way. Though you can see he’s got a long way to go. I think I’m seeing excessive flapping, working harder to stay in flight. Unless it’s just the angle? Gotta build up those muscles jojo!

Nice first solo flight!!! Great job JoJo!

good job Jojo! Exactly how I got Rio flying around. Love the slow landing conures do, like they turn briefly into a humming bird

yea he gets winded really quickly. His flight feathers look to be just barely enough to let him fly, but he has to try hard. I'm sure it will get easier for him as he builds his strength and the flight feathers continue coming in. We practiced for a couple minutes today too, he was so winded by it, he would land and huff and puff. I wish I could let them fly all the time but I lost my lovebird to a open door, never again.

What about your Nanday and tiel? They aren’t coming to the shop with you. Will you let them fly?

Well, I haven't needed to clip my tiel. He has a wing that he chews on obsessively and he wont let his primaries grow. He chews them off before they get very big. I've been working on the behavior and finally in the last couple weeks two of the main primaries on the end of his wing are growing but they look really bad. Missing fletchings and just really ragged. They are darker than his other feathers too. Something is wrong with how they grow but I am hoping with this latest development that maybe it is resolving itself. Vet said they should grow but it's been a year. He's had his other flight feathers on the other wing for some time now but when he tries to fly he just flops around. I hope after a couple molts that that wing will finally grow normal feathers and he won't chew them off. We shall see. both my nanday and tiel will stay at home while the other two conures go to my shop. None will be ignored they all will get personal time with me. My nanday I will probably allow to learn to fly but I am still wondering if keeping them clipped as well is the best option. I often leave the door open in the summer so I am worried for their safety if they fly off into the night.

Well, clipped or not, you cannot leave the door open while the birds are out. Even clipped birds can fly away if a gust of wind carries them into a tree. So if you’re going to let your Nanday learn to fly (which I highly recommend) you’re gonna have to break that habit.
