Nigel has turned into a foodie. I think he should be a restaurant critic because he would give everyone 5 stars! He loves fruits, vegetables of all kinds. He throws pasta, flings grapes, and rolls the remains of peas like a pro. He absolutely loves corn on the cob and decimates it until it's unrecognizeable.

I'm really thankful he eats so well. He was in a bit of a "shabby chic" condition when he came home so eating well has turned him around big time.

He still loves for me to hand him his sugar snap beans one by one and gives a sweet peep when I've forgotten to notice he's finished and needs another.

Yes, Nigel, is there anything else on the menu you would like?

This cracked me up.. the visual was awesome. So nice to hear about a CAG foodie.

Good job on eating your veggies Nigel :)

You and Nigel are so fortunate he eats a variety of foods! Some parrots are so finicky it may take years to convert them from an unhealthy diet.

That is magical when they start eating everything they should! Nigel is truly a special guy, and knows what he wants:)

Truer words never spoken! I've eaten more veggies and dang parrot pellets, dehydrated veggies etc. She treats me like her personal taste tester and then has the nerve to turn her beak away when it's her turn or throw it at me :)

They can be such snobs I tell you - but I love that about them! What's up with that?

You're right they are just the bratty snobs of the bird world lol I know Gracie has no problems asserting her opinions She's also a giant hold out kinda like my kids were.. Stubbornly waiting to get what they would rather have.
Odd but it's way more endearing in her than it ever was in the kids

I've not reported much on Nigel's culinary journey lately. He now definitely has favorites, is terrified of purple grapes, and now LOVES pasta. And ooooohhhhhh the fun of throwing food around! Once he figured that out, the floors have never been the same.

Nigel's newest food discovery? Sprouts! I ate some (he loves green beans anyway) and he was at first wary but once he tasted them - devoured them! I'm so happy he eats so well.

And then there's mango.

It's mango season here and we have mangos everywhere - it's wonderful. Nigel has decided he loves mangos, yes, eating them a bit but playing with them more! When the mangos have reached an overextended point to where they don't sling around in big globs I am summoned to get more. They apparently need to have the slapping the wall effect to be acceptable.

Yes, this is Nigel's world.

Foodie, eh?

Sounds like he's also a Throwie and Tossie and Flingie!

Luv ya, Nig'!

Smokey was a flinger! After Amy came along and showed her that new foods weren't evil,Smokes began to eat anything and every thing. Sweet corn and peas were among her favs, and pineapple chunks and 'nana's.

From coming here on just a seed diet,to eating/trying anything was a huge step, and it was all due to Amy! :D

I can hear how much you miss Smokey. I understand. I missed my first grey Kasuku so much that I couldn't think of having another grey. It took many years. I had another bird in the interim (GCC who I loved dearly) and then fostered a grey to health before we left the States. When the opportunity came to have Nigel, I was ready to once again to go for it. So glad I did. He's such a hoot. It's a lot of work on this side having him (no AV, any vet is rare, nothing is easily gotten here, etc) and I've learned how to have him almost totally on fresh foods and birdie bread that I make.

Ah, memories and nostalgia over!

Sighhhh....ya she was one of a kind,but then again,aren't they all?? :)

From being an escape artist..trouble maker with the cat..jealous of Amy,but very loving in her own way! I accepted her the way she was, couldn't change her mind about hands...she would step up on occasion,if it was the only thing she could do,but she truly loved my shoulder, would sit there for hours on end gurgling in my ear, nibbling my ear lobe, pulling my hair and banging her beaky on my forehead..I could go on and on.

After she passed on,I was honestly looking for a baby grey. I found a woman about 2.5 hours away that had a couple baby Timnehs ( that was Smokes pedigree) and I talked her down to $900.
Then Jonesy came along. Maybe someday I'll be owned again by a Grey..

mine eat almost anything, they love cheese, chips, vegetables, eggs, fruit, pasta they have half of a plain biscuit each morning for breakfast! they go mad if a bag of crisps is opened, I know people wont agree with what they eat but it isn't often and in small amounts except the cheese and biscuit but I think, they will obviously outlive me, no one wants older birds so they might as well enjoy their lives! they are both healthy and chatty

Triumph for the day: Nigel LOVES the birdie bread i made! Hes not slinging food anywhere, quiet as a mouse, nom, nom, nom...
