Parrots
Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
..I've been blowin' air out my pooper :09: for some time now about wanting/needing/getting the kids a scale. You may recall that the last time Amy was visiting his doc we discovered (among other things) he was waaayyyy too porky at 548g's,the heaviest Amy has ever been. So since then I have been trying my best on improving his diet even more because of his discovered heart problems :52: ( geez if it isn't me with the heart its my poor bird )

So this morning when he took a shower with me, he kinda felt "lighter" than usual. So I went to WallyMart looking but only found food scales..Anyway..I jumped on Amazon and ordered from Parrot Wizard, a NU Perch Parrot Training Scale capable to accurately weigh a ruby throated hummingbird all the way to a california condor. $89 plus shipping but also got a $5 discount.

Just curious if anyone has one of these?

Cool! I had no idea that they even sold a parrot scale.

I use a $20 food scale and a homemade perch.

I love it... I like all his (Michael) products.

The things I have not buy from him for my BABY KISE are.. the clicker and the stick.. I will next time when I am ready to do some training... I don't think I will be good at using it though...

Gee I just put my medium sized Avitor Harness up for trade in the toy section lol..never been used and its too small for Amy and way too big for BB

Remember, with a cheap Walmart $20 scale, you can put an empty cage on top of it and Zero it out, place your baby in it, take the weight! Or, a hundred different variations!

If you have a $20 bird buy a $20 scale? :52: JUST KIDDING!!! :D

And YE claims to be a true yankee? Let’s produce papers!

LOL I have a "free"macaw, so she does not need to weigh in?
(she will be delighted/ till I find some 'free' scales of course)

I am upholding the dutch tradition of being frugal almost to a fault (well in this case anyway) and did not even invest in a perch for them.
They just get to 'step up' and 'stay' on the little platform.
It shocks the CAV every time they go there :D (I love doing that to them, keeps them on their toes)

Jim: plze show off once they get there?
I'd love to see 'the real deal' in action.

I have the same one as heedless--- ParrotWizard sold it.
It's a great scale, but my cockatoo is scared of it lol. I think it brings back memories of the vet...

No "ParrotWizard" expensive stuff necessary, we just use the $15 kitchen scale from Bed, Bath, and Beyond and hit "Tare", lol...

Well I bit the bullet and it has already been ordered :o Might be here by Thanksgiving :)

Thanks folks for your responses.

It is basically a large chemistry scale (with s square metal plate) that is programmed to account for the weight of the perch...It is a nice one, but still, EllenD is correct that you could make your own. That having been said, those scales always went missing when I was in school (as people used them to weigh...other things and they weren't particularly cheap). Digital scale prices may have gone down with the internet etc.

:) I was kidding Jim, it looks like a nice scale, I'm sure it is...I'm just a cheapskate...Honestly, no joke, I am...Which works out well because I love building all my own stands, perches, play-gyms, aviaries, toys, etc. I have a huge workshop with all of the necessary woodworking power-tools because I repair and restore guitars/basses as a side-business, and my garage is built under/into my house, and it's too small to really keep a car in, so I just turned it into part of my shop, with the rest of it right through the door in the walk-out level of my house. So yeah, I'm cheap, lol...

As far as the scale thing goes, nothing wrong with buying an expensive one if that's what you want to do, it's just good that everyone know that as long as whatever scale you're looking at has a high enough "upper limit" to weigh your birds (most digital kitchen scales go up to at least 1kg, so that's plenty), and as long as you can change the units into "grams" from "pounds", then it can easily be used to weigh your bird(s), and you only have to spend between $15-$20 at any Walmart, Target, Bed, Bath, & Beyond, etc. And if you want to attach a little tabletop perch to the top of your digital kitchen scale, like the one in the photo sold by "ParrotWizard", the easiest way to do so is to either make a little tabletop perch exactly like the one in the photo out of PVC piping and fittings yourself (that perch would cost less than $5 to make with PVC pipe/fittings from any Lowes, as long as you have a $10 PVC pipe-cutting handtool), OR you can just purchase one of those "jewelry display" things that look exactly the same as a tabletop perch at any Walmart, in the arts/crafts aisle that has all of the jewelry/beads in it, for around $8. They are those display things that are used by jewelry stores to show-off bracelets, and Walmart sells one in the arts/crafts aisle where the beads/jewelry parts are that is made out of PVC and covered in Burlap! It's perfect to use as a Tabletop-Perch for your birds if you don't want to make your own out of PVC piping/fittings and some Vet Wrap...And then all you have to do is to secure it to the platform of your digital kitchen scale (the method you use to do this would depend on whether you want it to be temporary or permanent)...Very easy, very cheap, and basically the same thing as the ParrotWizard scale/perch...

Just always nice to present an alternative for people who either can't afford to pay $100 for a scale to weigh their birds, or are like me and just extreme cheapskates, lol...Seriously though, it's very important to weigh your birds and keep-track of their health, so buying any digital scale that will get the job done is very important, and it doesn't have to be a fancy, expensive "chemical/scientific" digital scale.
