5yr Female Vosmaeri Eclectus - Chilli.
Im at my wits end, ive had my featherpants now for 6 days and its been one avian vet trip after another.
I took her the first time when she was acting a little bit off, she was super sleepy and not playing as much, and seemed to be having some issues breathing… so off to the avian vet she went, she was diagnosed with psittacosis given a crop full of high energy goop and given a shot (im to go back weekly for the next 6 weeks for doxy injections), she also had a mild yeast infection.
She picked up a bit yesterday, but today she has gone downhill again! Super sleepy and just puffed up in front of her food bowl. Off to the vet she went again, but they didn’t think that there was much they could do, she seemed better than tuesday, the yeast infection had cleared up, all they could offer was to admit her for constant crop feedings but considering that she was eating then it was a bit unnecessary, we took her home and cranked the heating up (reverse cycle a/c, its about 27c in the room atm, we are going to move her upstairs later in a toasty 30-35c room) but now she is wallowing around the bottom of the cage, only climbing up the side to protect her house from my partner.
I don’t know what else to do, am I being super sensitive?! Is this just something she needs to ride out? Im sure the Vet thinks im mad dragging her back every 5 minutes L has anyone else dealt with this illness? Or doxy injections? could this also be attributed to stress? the bottom of the cage thing is freaking me out!

I would be freaked out too and would probably be doing daily runs to the a-vet too if she looked bad. Keep her in the warm room as much as you can.
You say that your birdy has been with you for only 6 days.
Where did she come from?
Do you have any other birds in the house?
Sounds like this poor baby came to you already sick.

Psittacosis is one of those infections that can be in the bird, but get activated in to a full blown eposide when under stress. It can affect many systems in birds, so it is likely that she feels like total crap, and the doxy may make her feel sick too. Just do what you can to comfort her, feed her, maybe make her or buy her a warm snuggle hut. And.... don't worry about going to the a-vet too much. Better safe than sorry. Psittacosis is serious. Keep us posted.

Well it's all over, my pretty girl died today at 3.20 there was literally nothing the a-vet could do, the psittacosis had too much of a hold on her and the doxy wasn't having an effect. At least after 5 years of hardship she knew love for a brief week.

I don't know what to do with myself now. I've only owned her a week but already she has left a crater in my soul.

R.I.P my sweet chilli bird, you aren't suffering now :(

I am so sorry for your loss. It is wonderful that you took her in and gave her a good life, even if only for a short time.

So so sorry for your loss. You did the very best that you could and many would have given up long before. So sorry, despite the length of time, you can tell you loved her dearly!

I'm so sad for you. You did the very best you could for her, and I'm sure that she knew it.

You did a wonderful thing... Taking care of her for her last few days on earth. But now she's gone up to that big tree in the sky! With all the fruit and seeds she could eat! You've a wonderful person for taking such good care of the bird... Take care! Be strong. You can try to adopt a new parrot in need!

Where did you get her from? Do they know what has happened? So sry for your loss.

Jess... So sorry for your sad loss. You did everything possible, and yes, you gave her love love love and comfort for what turned out to be her last days.

How long did you have her?
When you feel ready, how about bringing another bird into your life... you can even start with fostering if you aren't sure.

I'm so sorry to hear you lost your Chilli after only a brief stay with you. You sure went to bat for her...how wonderful and kind. One day, when you catch your breath, perhaps you will open your heart once again for another feather child to spread their wings with you...

I'm so sorry to read this sad story! It doesn't matter that you'd only had Chilli a short while - we grieve for the future we had planned and that now won't be happening. Rest in peace, little Chilli. You were a brave girl and your Mum loved you very much.

It would be a wonderful thing for Chilli's memory if you felt able to adopt again and form a new bond with another little bird.

Warm hugs to you!

Its been a rough ride these last couple of days, throwing out the toys was the hardest. Im so sad that I wasn't able to save her in time, but she had a good week, where she was spoiled rotten.

The pet shop made good and refunded our purchase price plus vet bills, I hope to goodness he treats all the birds in his store as the vet reccomended. But I doubt it :( tbh id rather have Chilli back than the money.

I will get another bird (most likely 2) maybe later next year, its too raw now, and although I love them, im not sure I could get another sweetie eckie. And frankly breeders in Melbourne AUS are either not advertising or not in this state! So now im struggling with what bird would suit me and if it is available in vic (cos im so scared of freighting)

Jess I'm so sorry that happened to you, what a bad experience. Yes, give it some time and have a look around, no doubt you will find a bird that you will want when you're ready.

Sorry to hear about your loss.
My heart goes to too you and your family:31:
