Button- 3yo peach-faced lovebird (opaline turquoise ino)
Ava- 7yo Amazon hybrid (yellow-crowned x yellow-shouldered)
We all know birds each have their own personalities, and with that, things that they really dislike. What are some things that your birds are strongly opinionated about? I’ll list my birds’ dislikes first.

Button (lovebird):
-Fingernail polish. He despises it. I can no longer paint my nails, unless I want bloody fingers to go with them. He’s fine with painted toes.
-Those plastic balls with bells inside that ā€œall lovebirds love.ā€ They make him a very very angry bird.
-M & M’s
-Brooms, vacuums, hockey sticks, anything with a long handle

Ava (Amazon):
-The vacuum. She becomes a very big bird when the vacuum turns on.
-Possibly hats. Still trying to figure this one out.

My CAG tries to do tatoo removal on my daughter's rump and calf. She goes into sneak mode to get close. As above with nail polish. But add silicone or plastic watch bands (metal ignored). But she removes metal necklaces, earrings. Contrary to above she likes vacuums. She alternates start up and end whine. Otherwise vacuuming is ignored. Cats, dogs are not allowed to have tails touching cage. A 10+ yr old swing recently removed. It had no bird poo. An annoying dislike is a flashing flashlight. She tries to attack, turn off the thing. But flashlight not flashing is ignored. She seems to ignore seasonal lights flashing or not. The ultimate is if me, my daughter with each other or on phone with family use raised voices. We get loud she gets louder on and on. Sometimes we aren't paying attention until we're nearly yelling.

Most all my birds don’t like or are scared of baseball caps.

Bella is scared of boxes bigger that one foot square.

The Twins are fairly mellow .
Luna has an aversion to being touched.
Touch her on the foot or on her tail and she screams like she’s being tortured.
I’d call her a drama queen šŸ«….

The Rb would approve of all these restrictions. He also reserves the right to hate anything new... like, f'r'instance... one day I blew a bubble-gum bubble and popped it. He shrieked and fell to the cage floor and would not exit his cage for the rest of the day.

Bingo had a whole list of things, I could write a book.
🩹 bandaid.
Glasses šŸ¤“.
Wet hair.
Jacket and sweater.
Prescription pill bottle.
Mist bottle.

This is Baci, the beautiful GCC whom it broke my heart to lose back in 2018. I named him after my favourite brand of Italian chocolates, and Baci is also Italian for ā€œkissesā€ which he loved. None of my birds have ever really hated anything, but Baci HATED my husband with a passion. Hubby was just lucky Baci was a reluctant flyer otherwise he wouldn’t have been safe anywhere!! Hubby took this picture which is why his back is turned. Still miss my baby boy every day.

Oh yeah, bandaids. I forgot about those. Button hates those too.

Ona:
- me taking any kind of cap or lid off of something. Chapstick, prescription bottle, makeup, the list goes on
- me using scissors or a writing utensil
- me picking up the dish scrub brush
- generally anything snake-like, broom handle, etc.
- large buckets being carried near her šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø
- my big water jug. Can’t use it with her šŸ˜…
- dice and her little wooden bowling pins - not sure if she hates or loves

Yuri:
- nothing really yet! Other than getting off my shoulder!

Piccolo can't stand when we apply lotion, brush hair, wipe counters, mop, anything with a motion like that. He came to us that way so I have no idea what brought this on. It is pretty hard to avoid doing any of it in front of him. Keep hoping he will outgrow it or change his mind. He doesn't mind the vacuum though...go figure. He actually seems to like it.

Charlie hates baby carrots. LOATHES them. He will attack them if they're put on his cage. Cute the gluttonous dog waiting by his cage to feast on the rejects.

Redshift - he's pretty relaxed. Not much spooks him.

Voritex- same here. She's not a screamer or defender of anything she dislikes. Maybe a new brand of pellets, but even then she'll grudgingly eat it.

Yvons - I'm still learning, but he dislikes his food being in large chunks (feeds them to the dog), the mister, and my bird perch I use to transfer him to wherever.

Otto hates:
bananas ( think they look like him?)
spinach
being called a tiny chicken - wet chicken is okay.
finger touch to back or head - he only likes finger touches to beak
if you don't take his picture on demand
if you don't show him his picture you took and tell him how handsome he is...
not having his bell with him everywhere he goes
the kid upstairs obnoxious running, banging and jumping over our heads
people who don't reply when he speaks to them. Don't be embarrassed!
Being ignored ( I would not talk or respond anytime he bit me for 15 seconds when he was young.) it worked. He talks biting but doesn't do it.

This is Kona the Cockatiel. I dislike when I spend several minutes preening and adjusting Mother Human's hair, but after she leaves the bird room, she brushes her hair straight again.

Forgot about this. I can get Nameliss to forget she can stand, walk or even have feet. Put a poo diaper on her! One day diaper was left alone. When found all stitches were removed. It was never replaced.

Salty only hates my youngest son. If he walks in the door, the tail feathers splay out wide, and Salty goes into attack mode. I should say Salty's tail feathers, my son's got pruned off a few years ago (married).

And he hates when I am out late and miss training session. Thats the only time I can count on him trying to bite me.

But objects dont faze him, he reserves hate for people!

This is really interesting, and entertaining, to see what opinions your birds have. Such big personalities in small packages. I also thought of another dislike of Button’s. Tape measures.

My budgie Rocky, despite being hand raised by us from an egg, hates hands. She loves us and any other parts of us but she bites hands. She eagerly hops on stick perches, phones, etc but no hands! Unless I'm holding my hands under the kitchen faucet and she wants a bath- then she'll sit on my hands while bathing. She's such a Diva!
