What does your eclectus like for food or treats?

I tried fresh sprouts, but Mac would have none of it. He likes a dried been mix. I bring them to a boil, then cut the pot off and let sit until the beans gets cool. They are not quite soft and more like the texture of peanuts.

He also likes fresh string or pole beans when they are in season. He loves lettuce and most any leafy greens like collards. But the greens has to be cooked in order for him to eat them, he doesn't like them to be fresh.

Mac also like butternut squash, summer or yellow squash and sweet potato mash with a hint of cinnimon. Also, mash potato's and as a special treat, french fries. He gets chicken once or twice a week is about the only meat I will alow him.

Now, he loves bananas, grapes, most all melons. But his favorite above all is fresh cherries.

His favorite treat above all is CHEESE. But he only gets a small cumb every now and then.

My Scarlet loves hardboiled eggs....eggs of any kind really. Its probably her favorite thing in the world so far haha. She also loves peanut butter so I put some on celery just like I got when I was a kid and she loves it.

Scarlet REALLY REALLY wants whatever it is that the Mrs. is cooking in the kitchen...even if she hates it, she REALLY REALLY wants whatever is happening in that corner of the house haha.

Hi rani, my boy eckie 'boogie' loves uncooked corn on the cob...try to hang it up in the cage as this encourages foraging behavior that they would be doing in the wild. Boogie has so much fun eating them. He also eats cucumber, red capsicum ( and the seeds) fresh red chillies, loves chickpeas, cooked mashed sweet potato and brown rice, peas, green beans and passion fruit, he goes nuts for rockmelon seeds and can spot a rockmelon from 2km away! He eats broccoli ( uncooked) spinach leaves, banana, mango and red kidney beans...I could go on and on....boogie loves his food...try to offer rani a big variety and you will soon see what she picks out first...I find boogie enjoys boiled egg as well, my vet said to only give half an egg with the shell on ( for extra calcium) only once a week though...good luck! Hope this helps....x

P.s...for treats, I like to pick fresh native seeds and flowers...anything from the 'gravilia' family of tree's and anything from the 'eucyluptus' tree family also.

Beets ! My girl loves fresh raw beets shreded into any food or alone. Plus she eats all of the above everyone else listed, with pellets her least favorite. Dragon fruit, cantaloupe, honey dew melon, figs, pomegrante, cooked whole grain pasta, chicken legs ( she loves the marrow from inside the bone)
She also loves to eat a salad with me, she sits with me and picks out the parts she wants ( i have the dressing on the side so I can dip in it but she doesnt get any )

Rani, did you get your baby from Jane @ pretty parrot ? she has the most beautiful babies and I buy alot of supplies fom her, she is very knowledgeable on Eclectus. I am located near Atlanta also, maybe you want to meet up with a few of us from the forum this coming Saturday the 8th at the Farmers market in forest park for the bird show. We are meeting at 9 Am to get the best pick of toys and such.

My Scarlet gets loves her sprouts and carrots, but she only likes the petite carrots. She also gets spinach, apple, grape, pepper, and broccoli 2-3 times a day. She loves and expects her crazy corn pollypasta cooked food at least twice a day, about a tablespoon or so. I dont feed pellets because everywhere said that it gives them too much vitamins, could cause toe tapping or wing flipping. Another thing my lil angel likes is bananas but fair warning...MESSSSSSSYYY. OH and she adores when I soak a parrot biscuit in water, squish it up, warm it and feed it to her out of a lil cup. She isnt spoiled though...hehe

Echo LOVES oatmeal. She eats just about anything. I give her:
brown rice (cooked)
corn on/off cob
carrots
apple
watermelon
kidney beans
strawberries
mango
scrambled egg
baby food
------------------------------------------
as treats I give:
mashed potatoes
oatmeal
baby food and oatmeal mixed
peanuts
grapes

Audrey's favorite treat is sunflower seeds. But I try to limit them!
Fruits - all time fav is pomegranate, oh she goes nuts for it, but its SOOO messy. Passion fruit and dragon fruit are big hits. Every day food that shes loves is apple, chilli, pumpkin & green beans. :)
It worries me about the strawberries containing fungus :( Audrey does love in season strawberries! I will need to be careful with them from now on!

My ecky is 4 months old and he likes chick peas. He was used to having pellets but I noticed he dunks them in his water. I give him , sw/ potatoe, capsican ,c/peas, peas carrot cauliflower a mung beans sprouted. Pear kiwi fruit. Brown rice mixed with his raw veggies. Seems to waste a lot. Is this usual.? He has this in the morning and again late afternoon. I have offered almonds but drops he them on the floor. I am worried that he may not be getting enough. He like the pellets. Was wondering if I should just feed him e pellets and some veggies. It would be easier. Wiseowl

My Ekkie is 4 months and thankfully none too picky. That said, he does seem to prefer the sweet foods over things like broccoli, beans, peas etc.

I tried putting different types of beans and pulses in his plate but he mostly had fun tossing them onto the floor. Now I tend to pair it with something sweet like cooked sweet potato mash, add in some heated frozen vege mix and chop up really fine in the blender. He tends to eat everything that way because he LOVES the sweet potato.

I have also found he loves corn cobs, even if we have already eaten most of the corn off them he will sit there picking until every little bit is gone.

Also if he doesn't seem to be eating much our guy will keep eating if you sit there with him while he is eating, or you hold his bowl up for him. Not something we want to encourage but when we first got him it was the only way he would eat.

My fid tried raw bok choy, parsnips, cooked chicken breast, radishes, raw carrots for supper last night. Seemed to favor the bok choy, and chicken. Little canible! :11:
