What style of snuggle hut does your med/large parrot like?

My lap...?!

You have no idea how much I *WISH* Kiwi wanted to snuggle in my lap! He will, on particularly cold days, crawl up my (or my husbands) shirt. No petting allowed while he's in there, strictly a warm place for him to hang out for a while. TBH, while it's super cute to see little conures and budgies in shirts, it's not quite so cute when it's a 420 gram amazon in there, making squeals and grunts (not sexual, just creepy):25:

Try it with a 2000 gram greenwing sometime... Maggie used to do that with me from time to time, and her head was huge. Made for a tight fit coming out the neck hole... with the butt and tailfeathers sticking out at the bottom.

Yeah. All of mine are lap birds. Especially my macs.

No sure if any of my shirts are big enough to fit a bird that big! Kiwi is pushing it size-wise.

I wonder if there's something I can make myself that would be similar to a happy hut? What type of fabric would be safe?

Buddy likes to sleep in a piece of cloth that hangs from the cage, just wondering what type of material would be best

If you want to try a snuggle hut, go for a natural fiber fabric (cotton, hemp etc...). Avoid synthetics (which would include all those fuzzy/bumpy/ultra soft fabrics), especially if you are unsure if your bird might chew on it. If your bird might climb or hang off it, look for a tight weave to try to prevent toes getting caught. And don't use batting in it if you think your bird might chew it. Cutting up an old 100% cotton sweatshirt might be a good place to start for warm cozy fabric.

Great idea about the sweatshirt! Thank you Kiwi!

Here's a link to a woman who makes her own "happy hut". I made one using her instructions & my sun & gcc sleep in it together. It was actually for the sun but the gcc decided he likes it, too, and thankfully the sun is willing to share. I made another one for the quakers, I rescued, to use but they've not used it yet. I'd gotten a really cute video of the sun after he'd taken a bath & how he hopped in & rolled around in the tent. I'd never seen him do that before. If I have time later, and can remember, I'll see if I can get the video uploaded for you to view. I'd been talking on the phone when he did it & I didn't want to keep the person waiting so the video isn't very long.
