What would you want someone to know...

From what I have seen (And I am purely going on forums, websites and images here) it usually seems to be the males that are the pluckers.

This is probably because more people own males as pets than females, so even if neither were more susceptible to plucking, it would seem like males did it more, just cause there are more males around.

Being like a cat I think is an excellent metaphor - if a cat comes and sits on you, you feel yourself blessed, it's not something that you necessarily expect. It's a bonus. Dogs on the other hand will love you no matter what you do, so while it's great getting love all the time, it's not worth as much cause it's not earned.

Eckies will give you less love than other parrots, but each piece is worth loads more cause you have to earn it rather than expect it.

So if you are particulary good to your eckie, you will end up with loads more 'love points' since your eckie may end up giving you affection as often as other parrots, with each bit being worth more...

Hello,

It's been about 2 months I have owned a female SI ekkie, I had a conure before her and I will tell you one thing that she likes to be alone most of the time. She is super quiet. I yell her name out all day long, call her tell her I love you and I will be happy if I get a response once. She does not like to hang out anywhere away from her cage. I have made a swing for her outside in my sunroom, she also has a dining table stand, most of the time she jumps off and walks towards the cage. I have learned that it is going to take a long time for her to like the family and the new place. Also do t trust the breeder blindly. I did that with a local breeder here and I feel like everything they told me was a sales pitch. I give her fresh fruits, sprouts, beans, brown rice, wheat pasta etc.

Also remember that this bird is so quite sometimes you feel more lonely:) of course with me I am not happy with the purebreed breeder but I will make sure the bird has everything it needs and the love of my family.

OK I have a question. I read somewhere that I should give my Tobi only distilled water to drink. Is this true? If so what can happen with normal tap water or spring water?

Water has been a debated issue before. Some give bottled, some have filtered and some give tap water. I give tap water.
I used to give my bird bottled water but found it difficult to carry due to the weight. According to what I have read distilled water is not supposed to be given.

I give Abby filtered water from the refrigerator.
