White Face Cockatiels?

Lutino and Albino (Lutino Whiteface) have the same red eyes yes! Whiteface hen does not have the orange patch on face and there's no yellow in the tail feathers nor yellow spots on wings, instead they're white.

Are cockatiels like budgies, where the boys are more likely to "talk"?

That first picture is what Doris looks like.

Yes, that's true, although I have a hen that can wolf whistle! I have heard of other hens that could also talk, and a couple of egg laying hens that could sing with the best of the boys!

Generally speaking, males are more talkative and sing more.

If Doris isn't a pied, then he is most definitely a male! :)

Also- about gender- to my understanding, tiels are gender dimorphic, yeah? Girls and boys look different?
Aside from the girls being generally less *bright* as far as the colours go, and generally less talky, unless it changes with colour mutations then females have stripes on the underside of the tail feathers, as males do not.
I could be wrong though, that's just from what I remember heh.

Sounds like bad past experiences with tiels. :(

Aside from certain mutations, yes cockaitels are sexually dimorphic. Adult hens will also have spots in their flights where-as adult males will not.

Pied is one of the mutations that is anti-dimorphic, in that males and females can have clear or "dirty" faces, and males may keep some spots and stripes.

This is Casey, my first tiel, and a cinnamon pearl pied hen. She'll be 13 this year. :)

And Tomi Girl, my pied hen. She was assumed male by the previous people who nearly killed her ("cool pet" wore off  ) but I knew for a fact that she was a hen.

and what's the different between a White face hen and a Normal grey hen to me they look like the same:grey::white1:

If it helps to see a "side by side" comparison.... (assuming you can see reds and yellows)

Wow, all these cute tiels... too bad I can't just tuck them in my pocket and run away! lol If anyone else has pictures, please feel free to show off! I'm especially interested in seeing cage setups for two plus tiels, to get ideas for my own setup.

No, s/he's not pied, she looks just like that photo before. S/he whistles/does a drill imitation and makes a lot of noise.... Now I wonder whether Tony is even a boy. I thought the boys had the rosy clown makeup, but if you say that picture is of a hen, I'm not even sure about him....

Maybe I should give Doris a new name.... hmmm.

Oh, and Casey is beautiful. LOVE that grey and yellow colouring on his wings.

Her* wings! :) Casey is all girl! :D

Strudel, you just need to take pictures of your entire flock and share em! =D

As far as the orange cheek patch? Males and females have them! The only time that they "don't" have them, is when they are of the blue mutation (aka whiteface). The blue mutation removes reds, oranges, yellows and pinks. In green based birds, you end up with a blue bird. In a grey based bird, you end up with, well, a grey and white bird! In white based birds, you end up with white birds! (think, a sulphur crested cockatoo that's completely white)

Both of my pied hens have laid eggs, so there's no doubt that they are hens! Of course, I didn't need them to lay eggs to know this fact. Although one whistles, neither talks, sings or does heart wings.

The male whiteface I had paired up with a lutino pearl hen and they produced various colored offspring! He didn't talk either, nor whistled, but he had a gorgeous song and he did do heart wings.

Susanne Russo has a great article on sexing cockatiels

Sexing Cockatiels - Just Cockatiels!

And she has comparison photos of a whiteface male vs whiteface hen.

Whiteface - Just Cockatiels!

If the bird is not a pearl, pied, ino, or a few other face altering mutations, then you can visually sex most mutations via the amount of grey in the face. Don't even pay attention as to whether or not they have the orange cheek patch! It doesn't matter! Not when it comes to sexing! Adult males have a clear face (i.e. no grey) and females have grey faces.

And of course you can also sex via flights, tails, rump and behavior.

Well, Tony's face is yellow, with red clown cheeks. I think he's a boy. I'll put the photos in a new thread.
