Kingsley the Green Cheek Conure - hatchdate 1/30/13
My little 9 week old greencheek, Kingsley, is very shy with hands, but for some reason he LOVES hopping onto my head and rustling around in my hair- biting it, rolling around in it- just being a total weirdo in general. Why do you think this is? It's not really a problem and I'm glad he's at least spending time with me in SOME way, but today my hair was up in a bun and he ended up getting tangled in it and I was afraid he would hurt himself so I actually ended up cutting a tiny bit of my hair to get him out. :20: Does anyone else have a conure or other bird who is obsessed with hair?? What's with it?

Thanks :)

I have a couple of thoughts on this., depends on what situation you have. Is it because he;s preening to be excepted? or is it a " mother's wing" thing. With such a young bird it could be either, but it does sound more male than female. IMO a bird at that age shows the signs of needing a "strong" parront, just my .02 worth.

My green cheek conure likes preening and rubbing my hair, etc and she is a year old. Your bird sounds fiesty but being young I am sure it will become accustom to stepping onto your hand. It will just take time. One pet store worker that knew I had my conure when she was six months said "she is probably going to think of you as her mother." I do not know if some birds view humans as their mother or not. If so will they always have a preference to the person they view as their mom or pick someone else? So far my bird gives people a chance and the vet even commented that she is a calm bird.

Probably because your hair is fabulous!

Stitch loves my hair. Sometimes he just burrows himself in there, but generally he goes crazy preening it.
