Hi. I am the proud parent of two young parrots.
Bacci is our 6 month old Lilac Crowned Amazon, we have had him for about three months. Loki is our Yellow Collared Macaw, she is 3 months old, and we have had her for about a month. They both have very different personalities, but are both very loving and affectionate to me and my boyfriend, which is awesome, however, they do not get along well.
Bacci is pretty laid back and easy going, and Loki is more intense. Bacci ignores her, and wants her to stay away from him. She will approach him, or run over to get involved in an activity he is involved in, but he will either drop whatever it was and waddle/fly off or he will lunge at her. I'm not sure if she is just trying to be involved, or if she is trying to express dominance. Bacci does not like it when Loki is on me, or when I am focused on her. (I sometimes feel horrible that I may have damaged my relationship with him, by introducing Loki into our family)
We are very mindful to always treat Bacci as the alpha bird. We are also careful to devote equal amounts of time to each bird, both separately, and while they are together.
Things are tolerable the way they are now, but I would like my birds to enjoy each others company, at least a little. Will their relationship improve with time, or are there reasons why I should not expect them to accept one another?
