My name is Elizabeth, but my closest friends tend to call me Liz.

I currently reside in SE WI.

I share my home with 2 cockatiels, Riley, a pied tiel, and Bailey, a pearl tiel. Riley's going to turn 9 on the 25th of the month and Bailey turns 7 on the 4th of March, exactly 1 week after Riley celebrates his hatch day.

Riley came to me via the now defunct Petfinder Classifieds (his owners, professional photographers, re-homed him because they found him to be too noisy) and Bailey is from a local breeder.

In addition to the cockatiels, I have 2 dogs: a 5½-year-old white and black Phalène (drop-eared Papillon) named Dane and an 11-year-old white and red sable Papillon named Leia (Lay-ah). Both are rescues. Dane was adopted from PapAdopters (he's actually a foster failure) and Leia was adopted from PapHaven.

Welcome to you, Riley, Bailey, Dane, and Leia!

Welcome!
Sounds like a very fun flock. I love cockatiels. So sweet, and I love the way they smell... like clothes dried in the sun, on a clothesline (memories from my grandmother's house!). If the Rb weren't so territorial and aggressive, I'd have a few.
Glad you found us!

Welcome to you! Bumble, my parrotlet, is an only bird for life, but yesterday I did find myself leaving a pet store saying “I don’t want a cockatiel. I don’t want a cockatiel.”

Welcome to you!

Thank you.

I'd never advocate getting a cockatiel from a pet store. They grossly overcharge. Then again, they do seem to have larger birds so maybe that's why they ask what they ask for them.

For the record, I paid $95 for Riley and $75 for Bailey.

I paid $20 more for Riley because I ended up getting his cage, toys, food and everything else his previous owners had for him at the time they re-homed him.

Oh, don’t worry. I’m not going to get a cockatiel anywhere - at least not while Bumble is alive! And a pet store would be at the bottom of my list of places to get one. [emoji16][emoji16] They were just so cute that the impulsive teenager who lives inside me wanted to take them all home!

Welcome to you and your wonderful flock of tiels. They are great birds, but I'm biased. :D

Thank you.

This is my first time owning birds. I got them because I read cockatiels were a good bird for first time bird owners.

Indeed they are. I got Baby in the early 2000s. Still as great as ever.
