Hey,

Unfortunately I should rehome one of my Senegal Parrots. Now I did find an amazing- maybe- home, but she wants me to test my Senegal first on the following diseases :
- PBDF
- Polyoma
- Chlamydia
- And maybe KDS

I don't know yet if it is a problem financially wisse. But I just wonder if there is any chance she may have it, because she is 14 years old, and she did come to me 3 years ago. Should I have seen it earlier? Should she have been sick if she has it?

Hopefully it is clear what I mean, because I am tired, and then the english language is somewhere outside my brain ha ha

They are probably asking for these tests to make sure that your bird is not infected with any of these viruses that could expose their existing parrots to the disease.

Chances are if you got your bird from a rescue, they did perform the tests. Give your vet a call and ask for pricing, if you don't have a vet in your area, Service Pricing can give you test results, though I strongly advise getting your bird to the vet for a physical as well.

It's very unlikely your bird has any of these diseases if it's been around your other healthy birds for a decent amount of time, but it is always good to test just in case.

Thank you for your answers. I didn't get her from a rescue, but from a animal store that I trust.
I did give her multiple check ups, but that is just the outside. Not a bloodtest, and it was just an okay she looks healthy.

But Aquila, you do think it is unlikely she has any of these diseases. She is with me for 3 years. To be honest I am pretty scared if she has any of these diseases. But I don't think so, because she is 14, and she isn't sick. Never been. Yeah one time she had something in her poop.

I didn't get the impression that Aquila said not to have the testing. I have one parrot that has been fighting an illness for the 10 months I've had her. I was told she was perfect, and I trusted what was said by a pet store. I've been treating her for months, changed her diet, etc. in this case I agree with Birdman.

I know financially it may be a stretch to get your bird tested, but if this possible home is a good place, think of the bird's quality of life. It's worth the investment in my opinion. Good luck!

I'd say your bird is unlikely to have anything wrong but for the sake of the other party it wouldn't be unjust or unreasonable to have a round of tests done. If you were getting a new bird from someone you didn't know well, or know well enough, wouldn't you feel better seeing up-to-date paperwork signed by a vet confirming the health of the bird?

I judge breeders by their willingness to do testing (that's if they don't already). I purchased a lovebird and it took me over a year to find one that would do the testing and let ME pay for it before shipping me my bird. (Then I put him in QT in the guest house for a couple of months and tested him again before bringing him into my home.) I wish it was more common to have breeders test their breeding stock, but, sadly, it's just not. And I really don't understand why when it's more affordable to do the testing than it ever has been.

I really doubt your Senegal is harboring any of those diseases but I would do the testing. Avian Biotech (in the link provided to you above) offers a combo test that makes that quite affordable. We spend more on a toy/food order than what those cost.

Sorry you have to rehome your bird, though. That's sad.

I use avian biotech, which is in the link above. Testing your bird for those first three should cost less than $60 total. I personally test my whole flock every 6 months as part of the health guarantee on my babies. It's a vp wise thing to do in general.

Yep avianbiotech is the way to go. We use them to test everyone at the rescue.

I live in the Netherlands, so I have a feeling that avian biotech isn't the way to go here ha ha. But I talked with the maybe owner, and we both agreed that is wasnt a good fit anyway, because she has 4 other birds, and my bird is like a little terrorist.

They do have a UK office that takes international orders I believe, if you do ever need to use the service, it's worth an e-mail to double check.

On their site it says UK accepts the international orders. Looks like they have forms and such on their website.

Thank you all so much
I did find another potential owner for her, and she is going to be tested. But still. I worry a lot about the strangest things. And still this. I know it isn't likely that she has any diseases. She is 14, yeah she has a bald belly, but she did pluck for probably 11 years, but there are new feathers coming in. She doesn't have any symptoms. I understand the testing part, really. And it isn't a problem.
But let's say that I do have a therapist. So I am working on it. I worry a lot.

I worry a lot, too, and even if you're not a worry-wart, you still hold your breath waiting on those results, even when you're reasonably sure your bird is fine. So I don't think it's out of the ordinary for you to be concerned. I'm sure your bird will be just fine. Just do it so you'll know for sure. I think you can still send those samples to avian biotech, even though your not in the states. Shipping will just be a bit more.

Thank you for your kind words. I feel stupid to worry so much. But I am glad people on here don't think I am stupid for that
