my poor baby got scared and hit a window. She's very "out of it". The soonest appointment i can get her is in 5 hours :( please keep your fingers crossed for Kyo. I've just been snuggling her nonstop. Is there anything else I can do until the appointment?

She is my child. I am sick to my stomach worried :(

HUGS to you both! I don't know if much can be done. Maybe stay in a cool temp room with her to discourage swelling. I am sure being with her is helping her.

Hope someone with more experience posts soon.

Wishing the best for your little Kyo. They sure know how to get ahold of our hearts.

Thinking of you and Kyo and praying all will be well. I have no experience in this area but if you could perhaps phone your vet back and ask for advice about what you should be doing between this and your appointment. Im sure they would be able to give you some good advice over the phone to help you and Kyo until you got to the clinic.

Thanks for the support. 4 hours to go. She's doing better, in her cage with a nice blanket at the bottom, but she is choosing to perch which is good. She had some natural blueberry juice for a treat and she is drinking and eating. My big worry right now is she is panting periodically which she NEVER does… :( blah.

Oh no! Sending gentle hugs to you and Kyo...I hope she will be okay, please let us know as soon as you get back.

3 more hours.. she's being more active and no longer panting. Acting more herself. Just can't wait to get her in and have her cleared as "ok". <3

So sorry you are having to wait to have Kyo see the vet. Glad you are seeing some improvement. Hoping she is okay. Please keep us posted.

Terribly frustrating to wait, but Kyo's trend seems positive.

Hope the vet finds all is well. Please keep us updated.

All I can think is at least the avian vet is literally a 5 minute drive for us. We are very fortunate in that respect, but being the only avian vet in Halifax she is sometimes hard to get an appointment with…

2 more hours… Kyo is doing well still.

I think Kyo is going to be okay...it sounds like he was in shock and now is coming back to himself...hopefully he will be fully himself before he goes for his vet appointment and they give him the all clear. You did a brilliant job nursing him .

Just now seeing this. How is Kyo now? Looking back at your updates, I think it is good news that she keeps perking up more and more.

I have had 2 similar experiences before. About 10 years ago, Robin was in a 'clam shell' style carrier, and he was sitting on the lower edge and the top cover fell directly onto his skull with some force! I was surprised and so relieved to know he was okay. Stunned at first but okay.

I also had a tiny finch who flew hard and fast into a window, completely knocked himself out to where I thought he was dead. He perked up several hours later and was up and singing again like nothing happened.

Leaving in about 15 minutes. She seems normal, but I don't want to risk not taking her.

My Pazu has flown 2 times into out back window and although stunned he's done fine. But yes a. Vet tripis due if you have worries.

Hi Sarah,

I haven't read all the responses but it sounds like Kyo's doing better. Boomer's had a concussion before. Vet gave him an anti inflammatory shot because of slight bruising in the nares. The brain could swell in some cases. He did not think it was necessary but was done as precaution. Consult with your vet.

Concussed birds are sensitive to light during recovery. Keep the room dim. Pad the bottom of his cage incase of sudden loss of motor functions. These birds are hardy, I'm sure everything will be fine. :)

Good Luck...hoping Kyo gets a clear bill of health :)

Ps. Consult with vet if uncharacteristic panting continues. My bird panted heavily directly after the concussion but only immediately after. He's panted in other occasions out of the blue but usually due to heat when he's nestled in my tshirt.

Alright. The good news is that all of Kyo's vital organs, air sacks, bodily functions are good. She has good mobility and reflexes.

Bad news- poor baby got a nice big sore bruise on her head. She's on .04mg of metacam to help with the pain. I'm always happy with this vet because she is so thorough. She didn't handle her for 20 minutes and just observed her and let me help with everything and checked absolutely everything. She was really worried but happy that we got her in as soon as we can. She said to keep a close eye on her and to call right away if anything seems off over the next few days.

Getting Kyo to take the meds? Not fun! She does not like the taste and getting the syringe in her little beak is a challenge. Doing my best, but at least I know it's just for pain relief and not absolutely critical so if she doesn't get all of it it's not the end of the world.

Thanks for all the support. She is now tucked into bed at her Nanny's house in her new hotel cage. She was thrilled to see it! Flew right to it and was happy to go in and explore it.

Thanks everyone for all of the support. This forum is truly a gift to be a part of.

Here's my poor baby <3
