Hi im in New Zealand and just purchased a Galah... it is really tame and friendly but keeps making this sound like a growling sound... the breeder we got it from told us it is a hungry sound, but it had just eaten... is this normal, I'm not exactly sure of age, but it weighs 200gms, and is eating seed and green leafy vegetables. How loud is it? Is it like a puffing thing, or like a chirpy/squealing type thing?

Quite a chirpy but husky sound.
Hope that makes sense i tried to upload a short video of it but i couldn't get it to work.

It makes sense, but it doesn't really convey something I recognise. It would definitely help if you could get the audio online. The only noise mine makes/made that I thought was strange is a little huffing noise, but it doesn't sound like what yours is doing.

It may well just be a sound he/she has picked up and enjoys doing - can't think of anything Alice does that sounds like a growl. I take it it's not beak grinding, which is a common sound for a content bird, especially when they're recently fed and ready for a nap.

Yes, that's the little huffing thing that I didn't recognise when I first saw/heard it. I wouldn't describe it as a growling noise, though, more a little hissing/huffing/puffing sort of thing. What's it like with Alice?
