Z's nare is blocked

I'm a little concerned. I noticed that Z seems to have a blocked nare and the vet isn't in until Monday. I called the emergency vet but they don't see birds.

He's not struggling to breathe. There's no sounds at all. Eating normally and droppings are normal. He's chatty today like normal. Isn't fluffed up or lethargic. In fact, he still had it in him to take a few shots at me. I sat with him in a steamy bathroom for an hour, first with hot water running until it ran out (my water runs out fast) and then turned on a cool mist humidifier to see if it would help. There's no discharge. Nothing else indicating he's not feeling well. Should I isolate him in another room? Could it be possible he's got some dust or something up there?

What should I do?

If you hold him down and use a tooth pick you can clean it out.

Use a towel to wrap around the body and hold him behind the head to clean out the nares. If you could have someone else hold him for you that would be best.

If he is eating, breathing and drinking fine there is o reason to worry. Ibtook Bosley in last year for sneezing and vet said between turning on the heat, dust and lack of humidity there was no issue, no meds. He suggested steamy bathroom as you have done.

I moved him into a sleep cage in my room just in case and put a humidifier on the floor next to his cage. I need to keep an eye on him. We don't get along but I don't want to see anything happen to him. If he's not over it by Monday we're going to see the vet just to check him over. Dude does not like to be checked out though. So every time I look at him he gets mad and takes a shot at me.

Honestly, he seems fine. Other than that one nare not being fully open he's his normal, snarky, mean little self.

I had a similar situation with my lory. She was acting and eating just fine, but one nare was completely plugged up and the other one was closing. I called the vet and he told me to use a small pair of forseps (think he meant tweezers) and unplug the nare. I told him I didn't think I could do that, I might harm her more. So I took her in and the vet did it for me.

In my case, I had used the Poop Off product on her cage and she was having a nasal reaction. After the vet unplugged her nose and I wiped down her cage with wet paper towels and dried it, she was fine. And didn't have a reoccurrence.

We made our own papoose for our grey. It was a thin board with Velcro attached. We would wrap Beau in a towel and strap him in. Mostly used it for nail trims, but would also work in this situation though you'd probably want someone to hold his head.
