I have noticed since Davy has becoming more and more comfortable with exploring he is very clumsy. He will try to walk across the top of his cage and "trip" and almost fall. He sometimes misses the perch when he reaches out, like from the side of his cage to the perch. Now he doesn't actually fall, just reminds me of a toddler learning how to walk.

My theory is two fold, first off he was in a tiny cage, with all the same sized perches and no room to play, and rarely let out. And two, his toe nails are very long.

He now has a variety of different sized perches and one that he can wear his nails down on, but it hasn't really helped much yet. And as he doesn't completely trust me yet, I absolutely do not want to towel him and do it myself, yet. So I will most likely be making him a vet appointment to have a general check up and grooming. (I like Birdman's idea of letting someone else be the 'badguy')

Do you think I should be worried that something is "wrong"? Otherwise he seems completely healthy, eats well, is molting and his feathers are coming in are so bright and pretty. No other signs of any illness. I am a huge klutz myself, so if that is just Davy, I am completely okay with it, I am just wondering if this could be a sign that something else is wrong.

It just sounds like he can't really get a grip on things, and needs to develop muscles in his feet more, since they've been so restricted. Once his nails are trimmed and he can get around better, I'm sure he'll be just fine. Sydney was the same way for a while.

Thanks Aquila, I guess I worry to much. Sounds like he just needs a trim and time, and as much exploring and climbing as he can handle. :)

Yup, I agree with Aquila whole-heartedly. I'm so happy to hear how Davy is coming around. :) It'll take a little time for him to regain all his muscle and coordination now that he is in an optimal environment.
