....for Amy..She has been rather quiet, since Arleen moved out. <I wont go into that> Amy likes EVERYONE,and depending on the new person,it doesn't take long for Amy to be buddies.
It only took a couple days before Arleen could handle Amy,and within a month Arleen could handle Amy as well as I.

So this morning I went into the living room to talk to,and feed/water my little girl. As I was replacing her nummy bowl,I her her say "Arleen?...Arleen?> I almost dropped her water bowl :11:.
I told Amy that "momma" wasn't here, and to try and make her feel better,I asked her if she wanted to "go outside...in the car?" < Amys saying>.
I put her on her perch stick, and opened the front door to show her how sunny and bright it is outside. I could see her eyes light up as she was looking all about <she loves outside in the car>. So I had to shower so I took her into the bathroom with me and put her on the shower curtain rod and turned on the water.. The poor girl!! She thought the shower was for her lol..she immediately extended her arms and started flappin' away on the curtain rod.
We are going outside I told her,and its a little too cool for you to go out after a shower. Anyone use a blow dryer on their 'zon??

Anyway..we are just about to go get coffee and a munchkin at the local donut factory. Here is a pic of her on her back in my hand, holding on to her perch stick :54:

Jim, it sounds like you are doing everything possible to make the transition as easy on Amy as possible. She is lucky to have you.

Amy is cute. Sorry about the change in your family dynamic. That's hard on everyone. May you both feel happier soon.

I was not sure myself how the blow-dryer will work with my Zons....... but to my surprise, they both loved it!... :)
I use it all the time now, specially on the cold days like today. We got a foot of snow this morning...... :)
Sorry, you are feeling sad.........it will get better.......... always does sooner or later.

Thank you..it has been difficult for both of us,but it is better in the long run.

Amy and I ended up at the local ALL PETS store,I brought her in and told her I wanted to buy her some "comfort" things.. She immediately started to talk up a storm <loves an audience> sitting on my shoulder.
We went into the birdie area and there was a large enclosure with 7 or 8 Green Wing BeeBee's..oh you should have heard Amy talking away to them! One little Be Be came up to the glass enclousure and Amy was on my hand..she leaned over and put her beaky on the glass and the little Be Be did the same thing lol..I think Amy made a new friend ;) I told the poor girl...not for $459!
So I got her some goodies..a big bucket of Nutraberries, a 2 pack of honey sticks <she loves those> a bag of 10 pieces of colored soft wood chewies and a hanging thingie with cardboard boxes to put foraging stuff in.

Geez...$48 for that stuff! I told the check out girl that she was suppose to point a gun at me when she robs me :11:

Amy made friends with her too. The girl asked if Amy was friendly, I said of course she is..the girl extended her hand and Amy stepped right up to her, allowing head skritches and a little back pets..all the while Amy was being very vocal with talking and 'zon speak.
I think she enjoyed her time out. Heres a pic of the goodies I got for her.

Jim

Awww, looks like Amy is getting spoiled:) She makes friends where ever she goes, doesn't she?
Sure you don't need one of those BeeBees?
:) :)
It's crazy how quickly the cost goes up by the time you get to the register.

DYH Amazon
My dear wife broke her ankle at the end of February and that had her gone for near four weeks with the combination of Hospital and Rehab. Our DYH Amazon bonded with her early on and with her not around, mornings and evenings were really hard on him (I did sneak him into the rehab facility for a visit). Anyway, what I found helped was the Real Estate Agent tour of the home in the morning and the evening. Visiting every room on every floor, therefore determining that she was just not hiding someplace in the home.

It is very easy to dismiss that our Amazons do not develop deep relationships with us humans, but in fact, they do. Separation is as hard on them as it is on us. So, lots of one-on-one time, and since they lock into our emotions, when we are down - so are they. Share sad moments with her and grow into a new world with her help and support. It will be healthy for both of you!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Sorry you and Amy are going through a rough spot. But you have each other, and there is nothing like the unconditional love of a companion pet.

Nice to know she is such a sociable Zon! They really open doors to us when in public.

I use a hairdryer on my Goffins after a shower. Keep it on a low setting in a ventilated room as some supposedly have some teflon parts. Not sure if true, but a low power setting should keep it safe! Most of them LOVE the hairdryer!!

Parrots are amazingly sensitive about changes in their "flock". On the passing of my dog Toby, and later the loss of our dog "Echo", our entire flock got very quiet and reserved. Toby was at his end with cancer, everywhere - the vet came to our house for his final visit, and the birds all saw him pass. Despite the normal raucous noise in our house, all was silent for several days. Not a peep, even from the Lovebirds.

It can take quite a while for them to get over losses in their family. Lots of love & attention will help get Amy feeling whole again, and you're clearly doing that, in spades.

Amy's a lucky girl...and I'm sure she knows that!

I was going to add this yesterday but then forgot it while replying but if yiu use a blow dryer on Amy be very very careful as most of these dryers are teflon coated which if course if iver heated is toxic for parrots...in fact personally I stopped using mine even inside the house years ago when I got my first parrot lest it suddenly get over heated which I have seen happen once or twice with a hair dryer even on a low heat when a particle got lodged and began to smoke...even guests in my hiuse are not alliwed use hair dryers or any other appliances that are teflon coated...lots of people use the hair dryers to dry their birds feathers from a little distance from the bird and nothing ever happens but if you use one on Amy be careful with it
