So a budgie was found by a local vet in my area. He handed off the bird to a local rescue/ rehab wildlife worker. He is a male blue budgie with unfortunately little history, except for where they found him and so on. He is a bit nervous at the moment and also has some ruffled chest feathers. The first thing he did when he jumped into his little cage was jump right to the natural pellets to see what they were and have a nibble. Seems to enjoy millet and I was told he likes carrots. So I will give him some tm when I get back from work and hopefully upload some photos. Any advice would be great as this is still my first budgie.

We've decided to name him Johnnie bleu/ johnny boy. We toasted his arrival with a nice glass of Johnnie Walker blue label, seemed suitable enough.

Congrats on your new budgie! For right now just keep things a bit quiet for him while he settles in. I would also suggest keeping him in quarantine if you have other birds since you don't know his history and he was loose. It's a good sign that he's eating already, I'm sure he'll feel at home in no time! Can't wait to see pics of the little guy.

*And super jealous of the johnny walker! yum!

Yeah thank you. I have him quarantined from my other birds and will continue to do so for the next few weeks. I wish I did have a bit more history on him but he doesn't appear to be traumatized to the point where he flutters around the cage when i change his water or millet. I chopped him up a bit of broccoli since my parrotlet loves his in the morning. Hopefully he eats a bit of that along with the natural pellets and millet for now.

My concerns for the birds well being are more directed towards any illness or problems I wont be able to easily notice. Things like respiratory illnesses or organ damage. I guess a blood test would be able to pick any/ all of that out. Is this correct?

For now, I wont worry to much and just let him settle in for a few weeks. IcyWolf you have some lovely birds also, and may be interested in a female parrotlet in good time.

Hope all is well with everyone else's birds!

Bill
