hi all. (sorry for making 2 new threads in 1 day)

but this has been on my mind since i got the parrot almost 2 weeks ago now.

ive just been giving him water for now and putting vitamin drops in it.
i always boil the water first because here were i live u can smell the chlorine in it very strong so i boil the water and let cool for safe measure.

is there any other drinks i can give my ducorps ?

ie = milk ? or other things like orange juice and apple juice ??

Fruit juice is fine, although I'd lean more towards the non citrus like apple juice or cranberry juice. Birds don't need as much citrus fruits as we do as vitamin C is less of a concern for them.

Milk is not good as birds are lactose intolerant.

Caffeine and alcohol are always a no no.

Just keep with water. Most juices have way too much sugar in them.

I am not sure about the milk, though I am pretty sure it's a no.

thank you for the input.
i was a bit unsure of milk because of the fat content in it.

it really loves a tast of my cup of tea but i only let him have 1 sip.
but from now on he wont be having any at all because tea contains caffeine and the 2 sugars i put in it.

I personally wouldn't use vitamin drops. They encourage bacteria growth, and are often synthetic and not easily absorbed by the body. So long as you are offering a diet of pellets, assorted veggies (dark leafy greens, bright coloured veggie), beans, whole grains, some fruit, etc your bird should be getting all the nutrients he needs.

Also, only let him have tea if it is caffeine free, no cream, no sugar.

I've read mixed things on the vitamin drops. Some say they are ok, and others say it encourages bacteria growth. Does you bird even need extra vitamins? I would discuss that with your vet. Mine gave me a powdered one to put on Pete's soft food for 3 months instead of in the water.

As for fruit juice, it should be a once in awhile treat, not a daily thing.

Birds don't digest milk though because they don't nurse as babies.

the local exotic pet shop said i dont need to give it vitamin drops.
at the moment i have him on johnston and jeff fruit parrot mix in 1 pot
and kaytee exact chunky in a 2nd pot.

i give him fruits every other days . he doesnt seem to like veg's for some reason.

the guy at the local exotic shop says the kaytee exact chunky food is a great diet for the bird and it doesnt really need anything else . but fruits and other stuff is good just to give him different things and not the same everyday

My guys love organic carrot juice and a ginger drink that I purchase. Only sugar is what comes naturally.
