13 y/o Umbrella Cockatoo, Indie
We just got Indie about two weeks ago from a couple whose daughter had raised him. She did a really great job he's super tame, and will set-up on almost anyone, cuddles bonds with females instantly, he's a great bird; kind of needy ;). Needless to say he's favorable of women. I've never owned a bird, ever. So this is new to me. My boyfriend however grew up with too's and goffins and is super confident around them.

The problem is, if Richard comes in the room or is alone with him Indie goes silent, if he walks by the cage Indie backs up as far as he can and stiffens. Indie will step-up out of the cage or anywhere with Richard with no problem or aggression but as soon as Richard starts to walk him to the play perch Indie tries to take off (fly). We're trying to limit my coddling of Indie and let Richard be the "good" guy. I've tried searching for behavioral help but all I'm finding is buy this, buy that or something else that's completely not helpful. Any advice or references would be greatly appreciated. And to clarify Indie is not aggressive in any way towards Richard, his body language mostly shows fear. My speculation is because with the original owners parents (who have cared for Indie for the past two years) the mom was the "one" for Indie and the dad had a super meak and timid nature around the bird. My boyfriend Richard has a strong dominant presence and I think that is what Indie is not used to :( He is also molting..:white1:

There's a high chance he might of been abused by a male person! That's why he is showing signs of being scared of men. But I wasn't there so I can only speculate....
