I may have posted before, but I can't find my previous posts.
My lovely Bubo (means owl) was our second bird, the first was Keikoa,
BF Amazon. They are buddies, stayed in the socializing playpen while learning to eat and perch, but Bubo started plucking feathers when she was about 2. I thought that it was when my mother was in the hospital and I was suddenly gone a lot.
Anyway, I have tried everything. Toys, lights, foods, sprays. Heat, humidifiers,
Vitamins, mineral, amino acids,
and she just keeps getting worse.
Her entire front is bare. Her back is mostly bare, some sporadic tiny down feathers. Wings look skeletal, almost bare except for a minimum
of flight feathers. Tail feathers are few and she chewed a blood feather tonight. Her head is the only place where she is fully-feathered.
My avian vet had me try Benedryl liquid once, but she hated it.
He also recommended a collar. She seemed so miserable! I asked him if he would leave it on if it were his bird, and he said no.
I took it off when we got home.
Someone here mentioned a vest that is made for pluckers by the flight suit people? Do those work?
What can I do?
Last summer, not too bad (feathers)
Now.
(Her crest is up because she doesn't like the camera and also, because she was busted.
What funny birds!
She was supposed to be eating in her cage, getting "ready for bed" and she snuck out to intimidate our other Goffin, Brandy. She is trying to look innocent.)
