Tips for a new GCC owner

I am going to be able to bring my baby GCC Apollo home soon. He/She will be my first bird though. So if any one has tips for training or ideas on toys and things to put in his cage that would be great. I am looking really forward to bringing him/her home and having a great experiance.

Do you know how the breeder handles Apollo? Have you visited and seen how she/he interacts with him? With my chicks I handle them a lot, they enjoy being pet anywhere and everywhere, turned over, kissed, the whole nine yards. So my suggestion is to always continue all of that in the new home. You may look like a bit of a nut case, but it will keep your bird from becoming touch shy. Other then that fill the cage with as many toys as you can and spend lots of time with him. Conures are a bunch of fun!

i have had probably 5 visits with him so far he/she just loves to climb up to and sit on my shoulder he/she so far enjoys being petted mainly scratched or get a neck rub.

Sounds like the bird is well socialized! I don't think you'll have any issues once you get Apollo home. What mutation is Apollo?

Congrats! When I first got Tori, my GCC, he didn't much want anything to do with people. Now he LOVES being on my shoulder. He does have a bit of a stubborn personality, though, so sometimes I have to coax him down with a treat. XD Your Apollo sounds like a sweetie! Just give him lots of love!
