Turquoise Feathers

River, as you all know is a normal green cheek conure. His parents are a pineapple and normal split to cinnamon/yellow side. He has grown in some turquoise feathers. They are really beautiful! Some on his neck, and some near his cloaca. Do other peoples normal gccs have some turquoise feathers? Or is it possible for birds to get some coloring from a relative farther back their "family tree"? Just curious.

I recently noticed some turquoise/blue feathers on Keen's neck - she is Yellow Sided, but I have no clue what her parents were, as I got her from PetCo. I've been wondering if Keen's feather's are "normal" on a YSGCC too.
I'm really curious to see what other replies are!

With the pairing of the parent's that would mean if River has been DNA sexed a male he will be normal/pineapple, sorry Rio Mom wasn't sure if he was sexed. Should it be female would only be normal.

Normal GCC'S have a lot of different colors in their feathers & yes all shades of blue/turquoise. It's amazing how colorful one little bird can be.

However, I have a breeding pair, male normal/cin & hen normal. I get normal males with some that should be splits & i don't notice any suttle color changes in feathers of splits. All the cinnamon chicks are hens. That's why breeders call normal a possible split when they are not sure. As in the case of the pairing of Rivers parents. 75% of the chicks would have been visual mutations. 25% normals.

Sounds like complicated genes Pedro. Love the turquoise feathers wherever that grow. I just gave a bag full of grey feathers to a young up and coming jewelery maker. Be interesting to see what she comes up with.

Maxx who is also a Yellow Sided GCC, has also developed a lot of blue on the back of his neck, after his first molt at 6 months.

Keen will be 7 months tomorrow. I've noticed the blue feathers behind her neck recently. She has TONS of pin feathers all over too right now.

I just thought I'd say this whole DNA color thing is really fascinating! I especially like seeing all the combinations with budgies.
