Hello!
I am looking into getting my second bird. I am leaning towards a Conure. What are some of the pros and cons of a conure? Do you suggest a conure? Thank you! :rainbow1:

Birdy the Green Cheek Conure
Here are a few off the top of my head to get things started.

Pros are:
Good companion, cuddly, active, playful, energetic, relatively quiet (some exceptions).
Cons are:
Nippy/bitey, prone to angry spurts, can be loud, messy.

Feel free to disagree or suggest otherwise, I didn't put much thought into it. :p
I definitely approve getting a conure though!

I have two Green Cheeks and they are full of love. Molly, my first one is the most perfect bird I could ever imagine. Cody on the other hand is occasionally nippy and stubborn but that's to be expected as he's a Green Cheek Conure. I love both of then so much and they are simply the greatest pleasure in life. I enjoy them so much I am currently looking into getting a Blue Crown Conure.

As stated they can be stubborn and nippy. They can also require a lot of attention to ensure they stay out of trouble when outside the cage.. Having just one Green Cheek, they can be fairly quiet with the occasional outbreaks but putting them around another bird they often get much louder. They are so playful and affectionate. Molly will crawl into my shirt and pop her head out the top and just go for the ride. They both wrestle with each other and do summersaults with small balls.

I bought a 5 mo old yellow sided green cheek conure a few weeks ago and as of yet she is not at all loud. Her colors are so pretty. I say go for which ever variety of green cheek conure that strikes your fancy. They are very sweet however she is a little nippy but I think she doesn't know that I have bare skin and no feathers. hehe. She loves to be with me and even tho she is clipped she will fly off onto the floor and start looking for me. She likes to be on me. and by the way I call her a she but she could be a he:D

All true, indeed!

When we bought Aizen, he was quiet and so gentle; after a week, he became a noisy bugger and savaged everything - and then it died down. You learn to roll with the nippy periods, and give them something to damage.

Bear in mind that when we say 'nippy', we don't mean that they are violent or malicious, they can just be very enthusiastic when using their beak to explore or play. You'll know when a bird means to bite, and we only ever really get that if he's found something he shouldn't, and we need to take it away.

Peeko is the sweetest, most affectionate pet I've ever had, and that's saying a lot. He's very comical and playful and he never fails to make me smile and laugh every single day. Before I got him I thought I was a dog person. I was sorely mistaken - I'm a conure person. <3 He's also very good with strangers and hasn't met anyone that he hasn't loved. He's extremely smart and catches onto things way faster than I ever expected, too!

Peeko isn't messy like parrots tend to be. All of his mess stays in his cage (which doesn't have a seed catcher). The only mess that ends up outside of his cage is a mess he makes when he's out playing. Maybe that's just him, though.

He's also very clingy in that if he cant see me, he starts 'yelling'. I say yelling because he can be much louder than he usually is, so I don't consider it screaming. But this is to be expected as he sees me as his 'flock' and wants to be with me. This is very manageable for me though because I'm always home and always with him. As far as general noise level, he can definitely get loud at times. Its manageable for us, but might not be if someone live in an apartment and has picky neighbors. GCCs are considered the quietest conure, but that's relatively speaking.

He can be pretty nippy, especially right now, since he's molting and has a ton of pinfeathers. He's angry with me if I scratch him and hit a pinfeather the wrong way, and he's angry with me if I'm not scratching him, haha :p But he isn't normally like this at all. He is normally very gentle with his 'beaking' and its more like he's giving kisses than nipping. He's never actually bitten me, or anyone else.

As far as I know, there's no behavioral differences in the different color variations. The only major difference is price, depending where you get one. If you go to a pet store, you're going to spend at least twice as much than if you go to a breeder. Pet store birds can be neurotic depending on the size of their cage and how much attention they get (which is usually not much) so its a better deal all around to get a cheaper, friendlier hand-fed bird from a breeder (unless you feel that you could handle the potential behavioral problems of a pet store bird).

Ive had a cinnamon green cheek and also a normal green cheek and from what I noticed the cinnamon's seem to be a bit more cuddly and the normal's seem more outgoing, although that could have been only in my situation!
