Sure are a lot of green cheek x sun conure hybrids lately.... I wonder how many may have health problems....

Hope your chick doesn't have any!

Anyway, your e-mail is private to you and only you... so you need to either upload the images directly to the forum or upload to an image hosting website so we can view them!

MonicaMc what an odd thing to say to someone new to the forum? I'm sure their baby will be fine. :)

Unfortunately, these hybrids are known to have high chick mortality rates and birth defects. I've seen this (birth defects) in offspring from at least 3 different pairs of unrelated birds... and have heard of it occurring in others... so it's a common problem with these hybrids.

So yes, I honestly hope there are no health problems in this chick!

In an honest attempt at trying not to sound rude, please Monica, here is a new member, VERY excited about his new baby, as he/she should be, but you sound a bit "negative" with what you said. I take that back. In your last comment you sounded VERY negative. :( C'mon. We're all here to help each other in the best possible way. AND we take pride in a VERY friendly environment. :)

Please don't get me wrong, I don't mean to be negative! I just hate the idea of someone buying a hybrid with known health problems, get the bird home, and something happens to the bird and the bird dies. I don't agree with hybrids in general (although yes, I'm still fascinated by them!), and I definitely do not agree with breeding hybrids with a high rate of health problems. I've seen more hybrids [of this type] with birth defects than those without.

I wish, with all good intentions, that it is a healthy baby and that there will be no issues like that! And that aside, I'd love to see photos of the little guy or girl!

Congrats on the new baby!

And I understand where MonicaMc is coming from, and she just means to keep a close eye on your new baby. Sun x Green cheeks aren't a "normal" hybrid like SunDay's or anything like that, you're crossing two geneses and breeding between pyrrhuras and aratingas aren't really encouraged due to having a different number of chromosomes, it can result in some health problems.
