Sprite the cinnamon green cheek conure.
Do you think it'd be possible to teach Sprite to just say a simple "hello" if I put it on repeat while he is home alone? I know that GCC aren't really known to talk but a simple hello shouldn't be too hard, right??

I have a sun that says 'hello' every time she hears the front or back doors open.....it took about 2 weeks for one of the girls to teach her.....just repeating it when someone came in or went out either door.....actually I think both girs worked on it with her, but the younger one started it.....

My green cheek says at least 6 words so I think it is possible!

Not all birds talk, but if you spend a lot of time with her, she may actually pick up some words

Ive had my gcc for 3 years now and she has never said a single word. She sometimes whispers some mummbly stuff that might be words but cant tell what it is.She does give kisses on command and we do have a contact call whistle but thats it.

My tiels on the other hand say all kinds of phrases and words and were very easy to teach so go figure that one.

Please do not record the word hello and leave it on repeat for Sprite.

Imagine hearing the same thing over and over again, he will become so bored with the word.
My suggestion, rather sit with Sprite on your lap each day, spending one on one time, saying "hello mommy/daddy" using any family members names.
He will watch your mouth closley, absorbing the word and hearing the pronounciation correctly.
When ever walking in the room Sprite is in say "hello mommy/daddy" etc soon he will catch on and begin saying "hello"

Gosh clearly Jasmine my 1 year old GCC is a genius!!! She says very clearly 'good morning' 'hello Jasmine' 'pretty Jasmine' 'pretty girl' 'pretty girl Jasmine' 'good girl/good girl Jasmine' 'who's a clever birdie'!!!! She says 'hello daddy' to my husband but I'm always 'hello Jasmine'. She loves making kissing noises too.
She also shouts 'Shadow shadow shadow' when we put the cat outside (shadow is his name) as she knows she's about to come out of her cage.

Jasmine also makes a sound like the kettle, a tap, the Hoover, electric shaver and my electric toothbrush (whilst on my shoulder when I'm using it )

She mumbles quite a lot of other stuff but its not clear yet.

Is Jasmine unusual? Or do I just talk to her a lot !

Aizen can say "hey baby" when I walk into the room; nobody else would ever recognise what was said, as it's a gravely voice. He says "no biting" most clearly, which he normally says.... when he bites something.

They're not great speakers, but they are excellent fun.

GCC...TOKEN
I would certainly work on it. Like others said...everytime you come and go from the room or the house just say the same thing. Token is 10 months and says : Hi Token, What, step up, wheres mommy. Then he will whisper good boy, and when you scratch his neck he says 'awww'. Most recently when he gives you a kiss, he makes a pecking noise and says thank you. Its just a matter of working with them. But i know there is no guarantee either.

Peeko was saying "baby" at 8 weeks old. He's now picking up "Peeko", "Baby bird", and "Love you" and mimics a baby chicken cheeping perfectly. Its a matter of what words/sounds they hear most often (or in the cheeping's case, which sounds they hear & decide they like the most. He only heard it once in a great while), and I've also found that Peeko is much more inclined to listen closely and try to learn a word when I say it with enthusiasm. Just keep trying :)
