Could my Jenday Conure be sick?

Hi everyone!

I am the new recent owner of a Jenday Conure Named Loki (4 months old) and I was hoping to get a seconds opinion from some people in order to determine if he is sick or if i am just overreacting. I 'm not familiar enough with his body language yet in order to determine a change because I have only had him for 4 days.

I took him to an avian vet yesterday for his first check-up and the vet said that everything seemed good. so as far as i know he is healthy.

When i woke him up this morning he was unusually quiet. He hasn't used is voice very much, but he does make a soft clicking noise once in a while, but he hasn't used his loud call. He is also itching his face a lot, and slightly quivering. He is also sneezing about every 20 minutes.

I am not sure if i accidentally got him sick last night. I gave him a bath a little too late in the day, i tried to make sure that he was dry before he went to sleep, but I am afraid that I might have gotten him sick.

He is still eating, drinking, preening, and playing and even cuddling.

Any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

Is there any discharge with the sneezing?

It's a little wet, so I believe so.

the bath alone shouldn't have made a healthy bird sick, unless he was harboring a little bacteria or something. did your vet do any tests or just look at him? if you just went yesterday and the vet ran the tests, you may not have the results yet.
has he been quiet for all four days you have had him or has he suddenly gone quiet? birds in new homes are sometimes not quite themselves for a while until they get used to their new home.
in the end, you almost have to trust your gut and if you feel unsettled, call the vet again.

He is up and down, yesterday he was really loud, but the day before that he was quiet.

I snuggled with him for a bit and he stopped shivering. It is a little cold today where i live, so he might just not be used to the cold yet.

I used that corn cob stuff for bedding, and honestly i think that is what did the sneezing, because I have allergies and my eye have been itchy since i have started using it. I switched to newspaper and and going to vacuum up the rest of that corn cob dust and hopefully that will clear up his sneezing.

Corn Cob dust ? ? ? Corn-cob bedding/litter in the bottom of your bird's cage has caused impacted crops/digestive systems in companion birds.....no corn cobs, cat litter, cedar shavings or sand for cage bottoms.....if you do gives corn-cobs, they should only be small chunks of cooked sweet corn & when the bird is finished, the cob should be thrown out, before it dries out.....

The jury is still out on cellulose litter pellets, but aspen shavings are OK.....just because something is sold in a pet store or for pets, doesn't mean it is safe for pets.....

Unless it is below freezing, your feathered friend can handle the temperature a lot better than you or I.....there are breeding facilities in Europe where the ice is chipped from water dishes every morning.....companion parrots handle cool/cold weather much better than they do heat.....80 degrees Fahrenheit can stress a bird, if there is no breeze/moving air.....

It sounds like your new jenday is just getting used to his new surroundings, providing a large bath dish will allow him to bathe regularly & that will help with dry skin/itching.....

If there is discharge I'd suggest another vet visit. They can prescribe some antibiotic that will clear it up. Just let the vet know his symptoms.

I vacuumed up the area he was in and cleaned away all the dust and everything. Ever since he had another bath and since I cleaned up his area he seems to be doing a lot better. He is not shaking anymore, and not sneezing, still a bit head scratchy, but if it picks back up again I am going to call the vet right away.
