Landlord is saying no to Jacob

This is what I was worried about, mind you Jacob is not a noisy bird, and he sleeps in with me as in not screaming at 6 am when a lot of birds wake up. But we have a girl here who work over nights so even the little noise he does do bothers her. We have tried to work it out, but when Jacob wakes up at 10.00 AM which is normally when I wake up he will scream a little, only for a couple of minutes because he is a good bird, but it wakes her up, she comes home at 5 am and goes to bed at 6 so four hours of sleep is not good.. she has tried to have sound on in her room, and Ive tried to keep him asleep longer, but that just doesn't work either. He is somewhat quiet if covered, but I can't have him covered to 2 PM, he is normally up somewhere between 9 10 am to 6-7 PM. So it just don't work..

He is such a good boy though so it really sucks.. He was getting better with people again (I brought him out to my Petco where I know the people and had them give him big treats to socialize him again to help with the over bonding, we were there twice this week as Im on vacation)

I do not like to have to rehome him but I can't afford an apartment right now so I have no choice..

Sorry have no advice for you about the noise, I would move.

Is there anyway you could move? You have to weigh your options, but if Jacob is as quiet as you say, he would probably be fine at a different complex. I have never had any complaints at mine and lukah is much louder.

I am not in the position where I can move, Im not renting an apartment, I rent a room, and I found Jacob, did not acquire him on purpose.

He's a good bird, and I do love him, but I can't risk my whole future by moving which I would right now as I've started my own company. I have cheap rent here which gives me enough time and money to do this. as much as I love him I can not risk that.

Do you have any friends or family who may want him, even part time and you could visit with him as often as you'd like??

Im alone in this country, immigrant from Sweden.. I do have pet friends and I have reached out to them, but most people have full house as all of us do rescue. And most are not bird people either.. Ive only recently learned to appreciate birds, Jacob is fun and adventurous, I always thought they were cool, never realized they are THIS cool..

Go to your doctor and get an ESA certification for your bird....it's illegal for any landlord to remove an animal that's an ESA. PM me later,and I'll walk you though it.

You have options.This is just the fastest.

and I am a dog trainer I train ESA and SA/SD. besides as an immigrant to have such things on me, that I need emotional support is not good when applying for renewal of my visa.

Thing was, I wasn't planning on keeping this bird at all when I found him, the new landlord said yes to keeping him until we found his owners. then his grand daughter wanted him and I was ok with that, she changed her mind and he let me keep Jacob, but the other girl who lives here, lived here before me has now changed her work schedule so it does clash with Jacobs loud moments. I am not going to be a mean person and pull something like that so she can't sleep. That is just awful..

I love him, but to do something like that.. No.. I've known in the back of my head that this could become a reality. Thing was when I first moved in she would normally wake up at 9 or so and be at work at 11 or most days just stay at work. 2 weeks ago her scheduled change and its been tough on her, but none of them have been bad about it. We have talked and tried to figure it out and it's not working. He wakes her up and she needs her sleep, he's an amazing bird but I would be an (insert appropriate word here) if I did something like that..

It'd be rude and respect less.. But they are ok with me holding on to him until I find an amazing home, they like him too.. So he's not just gonna be kicked out.. no no..

i let my friends in Huntington know about him and i'll let you know if i hear anything from them!! He sounds like he will make a wonderful addition to the right home.

It is federally illegal to lie about the need of a support animal. There is a fine and jail time involved.

Thank you! and yes he will, he talks, well hello and Jacob, he don't scream a lot, he let his owners sleep in. He likes to take walks outside, he will hang on your shoulder, sometimes he rides my dogs back holding onto his harness. He loves sleeping and laying on his back on you when you are watching Tv or sitting by the computer.

He has a couple of screaming fits a day, not as much as most, he gets about 3 hours of hanging out with me, and a few more out of the cage, in total 5 hours a day. He will now he play more independently, at first he'd be glued on e for 6 hours a day and I found out throught he forum here that it was way too much.

If he overbonds he will start biting others, but he was very social when I first got him and he did improve the last week as I took him with me to Petco and had them give him treats.

he eats veggies and fruit, loves his treats, grapes, apples, strawberries, blue berries being favorite depending on the day. He almost never poops on a human, I think the four months Ive had him almost 5 he's pooped on me maybe three times, so he's fairly housebroken too. Never had an accident in my bed either. He don't like when strangers are talking to me on the street, then he can get really loud..

He is clipped now but his flight feathers are growing in, I think he could be very suitable for free flight, as he did fly to me the first time I found him, as well as the second time when he got out by accident. It takes him a while to figure out how to descend, but for someone who knows how to train them he'd be perfect for this.

Overall he's an amazing little bird, he loves to please, but needs someone who knows how to deal with hormones. Right now Im walking around cleaning, and he is sitting and nibbling on his treats, and climb around on his ladder, and he has started to use his play stand too. He will take a while to warm up to new toys, he has had the playstand for 2 months I think, and he has used it when I'e made him but now he has started using it without being put there so to say.

Favorite toys are wood and paper, plastic not so much. He has started to appreciate bells and he will play with them and laugh. Oh and he giggles, if I start laughing at something he will laugh too.. He's a pervy bird, he needs a lot of exercise or he gets pervy..

He knows the word no, when he goes to try to bite a sweater or a cord, ill look at him and he walks away with the: Wasn't going to do it look.. He's also a very clean bird, likes to bath once a day/every other day, and he likes the waterfall baths and he SOAKS himself.

I also got him a couple of foot toys, and he has started to play with them a little bit too.. OH and he likes to steal the pitbull's rawhides.. he will bite the dog's toe, Scooby drops it and runs, the bird will drag the rawhide away...

Since he was found, he has been vetted, he has no psittacosis? I think it was called? he has no diseases and is healthy. All he needs now is a nail trim and he's fancy to go..

He will come with cage, play stand, carrying cage, food that is left, all the toys he has, his foraging toys (he has three). Two beginner level and one that is a bit harder.. He's still learning that one.

I love him, he's a good birdy.. <3

Is there any way you can alter his schedule?
Waking him up earlier and putting him for a nap at that time for example.

Just an idea, he sounds like a good birdie and you sound like a great keeper!

If I was closer, I'd take him in a heartbeat! I wish you all the best in this and hope something can be worked out where you can keep your bird.

we have tried, but that clashes with my schedule, the days Im gone all day is not a problem, because if Im not at home he don't make noise at all. But most of my clients is in the evening and then she's not home anyhow.. Very few clients is in morning (Im a dog trainer). And if I go up too early I wont be a good trainer, training dogs is exhausting, and even more so when you are dealing with dogs that will bite you if you do one wrong move. I rehab mainly aggressive dogs. I may go back part time as a dog trainer instructor, and if I do, I can likely get a cage at work and bring him to work with me if so, he will be fine for a while again at least over winter, then maybe her schedule will change again so its all a matter of time before it'd clash again. That's the issue.. and if my work picks up then he may not get attention at all which then would be a draw back too. As I said I wasn't looking to get him, as starting my own company is a bit busy as well as trying to bring in as much extra money I can in my down time cause 1. To keep company afloat and 2. To buy a house within 3 years. He's a patient birdy so lack of time I think he'd survive, Id have to deal with more hormones, as he entertains himself in not always a suitable way and a bit louder (he does get louder if not exercised just like a dog gets all excited and rambunctious) but that I can deal with its the whole waking up the room mate. I don't want drama or force myself or Jacob onto others which I think most of the people here can understand esp since they have been very patient with him so far and they all do care about him.

What about ear plugs? I use ear plugs especially in the mornings when I want to sleep in.

Emotional Support Animal, much like a service animal but for mental health. You must have a documented reason for the animal and the animal must be trained to do 3 tasks that support normal life style for the handler. This is per federal law. It is a federal crime to pretend a pet is a service animal.

I'm sorry but I just have to say that this girl who works nights is a whiner. I've worked nights for 10 years and I'm "lucky" if I ever get 4 hours of straight sleep. That just doesn't happen. People mow lawns, use weedeaters, play music, etc. Plus, I've got 2 kids to haul off to school every morning. I wake them up, fix them breakfast and drive them off to school which takes 15-20 minutes each way.

Ok, this is what I'm confused about. I get why people would need a leader dog or what-not. I also get why someone who is emotionally fragile would need a pet. But how would an emotional support animal perform trainable tasks to give emotional support? Wouldn't that just be being cuddly? If there's no physical handicap, what tasks would be required? The emotional support I would assume would come from being cuddly and cute and needy. What other tasks would they have to perform? (I'm not commenting on the Jacob thing, just this subject in general)
