GCC screams at noon and before Bedtime

Hello everyone,

I have a 3-4m (not sure exactly) months old GCC who is with me for a month and a week.

I work for home so i combine out of cage and inside cage time ... he usually spends around 2-5 hours a day out of his cage.

When he is in is cage he has a lot of toys, fresh pellets and water anytime, he used to bit when its time to go inside cage but it started to be a bit better lately (i give him treats when i put him inside cage)

Usually at around 5:00PM my girlfriend (she is not used to parrots at the moment so he has to be in his cage) is coming home and i have to put him in the cage until the next day and at around 10:00-11:00PM i cover his cage, his cage is at our living room where we spend most of time.

The problem is that he usually have a long session of screaming in between 8-11PM before we go to bed, i was told that i need to ignore that behavior so he won't start using it as a. way to get my attention.

I really love him but it makes it really hard for my family to live with those screams.

What do i need to do in order to improve those screams?

it is important to say that he usually doesn't scream at all at daytime.. he could have short session of screams when sun goes down and i heard that its a normal parrot behavior... im fine with that. but the screams at night are really hard.

appreciate your help on this one

8-11 screaming! He wants bed! You can set up a sleep cage in a quiet spot. For my JoJo, if I don’t get him into his sleep cage by 8:30, he is very loud! Think about it, if you are a dedicated, dusk to dawn, sleeper, you would yell at anyone always making noise while you want to sleep!

Thanks alot for the reply!
His cage is at our living room and usually watch tv or talk there until 12:00AM , what should we do in such case?

Also there are some cases where i. cover the cage and he still keeps screaming for about 20-30min

A separate sleep cage, or move it in the evening! The poor guy is exhausted! You can easily push him into being a plucker with his frustration levels!
My sleep cage in my room is great! At the wife’s place, she has a sleep cage in a large walk in closet for Bongo!

Re: GCC screams at noon and before Bedtime

Set a routine, try pattering to soothing music.
But one thing is he might feel he is replaced with the girlfriend, she comes home he is stuck in the cage...
try keeping him out for the first half hour she come home, sbd have come and give him a greeting, she doesn’t have to touch or hold him. Just a respectful hello, and have her tell him a few things about her day ... put him on a play stand with some evening chop while you guys are fixing dinner . Then when you put him up have some good treats, or , both of you tell him how great he is .
When yiu girlfriend comes home and when she leaves she should talk to him say hello, or goodbye. It’s just polite , as a flock / family member to acknowledge him.

I put my bird up about 6 to 630 and I dint get them out till morning about 630 or 7, they like to chatter a little in the evening and settle about 7 , their half of the great room is dark by 7, and I keep tv and noise at lower level tho I personally don’t cover them.. but that’s yo to the parrots personality and the home dynamics...10-12 hours of sleep is best for parrots, and a routine they can count on.

Your bird is a three old child mentality and a family member, if your girlfriend is going to be long term she needs to get on board. She needs to respect he is a family member, and acknowledge and greet him, and make space fir him in your lives... or yiu are probably going to end up getting rid of her or the bird....

Also dies he have to be in the cage st five? Can he instead hang out on top of the cage on oerches and with stuff to do and eat? I use ceiling hooks and fishing line to hang rope hopes or rope bungee down to sight line over my breakfast bar, o out a dollar store tray underneath with news paper for poops and stuff... they chill there while I make dinner, or I have a movable metal stand I git fir 30 bucks at the pet supermarket and have a big rope bungee stacked.. so the birds have their own furniture, it’s not just shoulder or cage, they have different hang out spots so they can be near the action and part of the daily life..
