I would say rather that they do require more attention to detail than most other parrots. Some people subscribe to the whole "beginner parrot" theory, but I'm not one of them. But yes, they do tend to need more work on the part of the parront.
That said, however, you do get used to it. The biggest thing is that they tend not to do well on most brands of pellets. So I personally prepare fresh chop for my ekkies. I do have to make sure that the diet I provide them is sufficiently varied in taste, texture and, most importantly, nutrition... but once you get used to doing it, it just becomes a part of the routine and no big deal. Some people make big batches and freeze. I personally make enough to last 3 days and just refrigerate.

Interesting anecdotal counterpoint to Stephen. I completely agree with him, but my partner (non bird person) has noted our ekkie is lower maintenance than our dog! And it is so true!
Unlike Stephen I make bigger batches of chop and freeze them, so I'm not having to chop as much as he is. It's just a quick pull, warm, and serve
. My ekkie loves mostly just lazing around on his stand daydreaming (total perch potato). Half the time he doesn't even want to come off and hang out.
He definitely like being around the humdrum but not in it.

I think with enough research taking care of an eclectus is not difficult. But sitting down and really thinking about what you plan your life to honestly be is really important. Travel, living situation, partner, kids, work load, life expectancy. I think all that stuff is super important. It's very long term commitment and you gotta ask yourself some difficult questions. Having said that, I can't imagine my life without Ugow. He's enriched my wife and I's like beyond expectations. Hope we're doing the same for him.
