Loud squeaking and chirping

This might the a dumb question, but what does it mean when my lovie is squeaking loudly when I have her out? She's 7-ish weeks old, and will just go through spouts of running like a madman and squeaking loudly. Or she'll just look at me and squeak/chirp and I won't be able to settle her down. I just want to know what she could be trying to tell me. Anyone else have this happen?

Re: Loud squeaking and chirping

Sounds like she's just expressing joy to me. I've never had a lovebird so I'm not familiar with their sounds, but if she looks happy, it's happiness. It could also be a greeting to you. If she looks angry it's an expression of that.

You might watch some youtube videos to become familiar with their behaviors or get a book on lovebirds.

When my lovie is out of her cage she usually will keep chirping and squeaking loudly until I acknowledge her by talking to her or whistling back, usually it's a her just being happy

Thanks...yeah that's what I think it is, she just was doing this more today than she had been before so I was wondering why the difference.

Re: Loud squeaking and chirping

As you get to know her, you will understand what she is telling you. You often have to look at their body language. Angry birds are generally pretty obvious. And you will know when she is happy, when she wants to play, when she's happy to see you, when she is relaxed and wants to rest.

When you've had a bird a really long time you will find your communication with each other is quite amazing. I learned my conure a long time ago. I'm still getting there with my amazon and my Grey, but I at least understand their body language. I had to learn their vocalizations/what words they knew as well. I'm not yet at the point with them that I knew everything they want as they ask like I am with Rowdy, but we are getting there. With Rowdy I even know when she wants to watch TV.

Like roxy said the longer you've had them the more you will understand what each sound and body posture means
