Hi,

I have one blue and gold macaw, and I would like to hear any stories or any advice about acquiring a second! I have one female and would like to get her a friend or boyfriend.

If you have two macaws....maybe two females, or males. Maybe you two or three macaws that are all different species or hybrids please tell me about your babies and how well they get along!!!

I want to have as much information about pairing, or finding a friend for my bird friend!

Any stories from multiple macaw owners is greatly appreciated!!!
How well do they get along? Do you have any videos, pics, stories???
I would love to get my blue and gold beauty a green wing or maybe scarlet friend but I just dont know!

I have already posted and have gotten no replies!!

Stories please!

Thanks
Blue and Gold

I currently own a Blue and Gold Macaw and would love to have another, but one is enough for now. I don't think our neighborhood would appreciate any more noise. lol.

We have acreage, and I would love to acquire another, but I would like to hear some success stories about having one macaw and then introducing another.

They sure are loud! lol.

They're only loud when they want something usually. I have posted plenty about my 2 GW's already, might try doing a search. :)

I did a search and read that your two beautiful birds are one clutch apar. what are the sexes of your GWs? How did they get along in the beginning? They look like they get along now!

so do you have to keep them separated? or do they determine when they want to be apart/ separate? Thank you!

We have a Blue and Gold (female) plus a Greenwing (male). We got them a week apart and both were 6 weeks old when we picked them up, they are now 1.5 years old. They love to play together and are very jealous if attention is given to one and not the other. Had to buy separate Java trees since the Greenwing would over preen the Blue and Gold, causing feather lost on top of the Blue and Golds head. We are getting a Hyacinth in September, she will be 6 months old. Will see how the three get along......
Also have an African Grey, Double Yellow Headed Amazon (rescue) and a Cockatiel. All have their own cage for nightime sleeping, out on Java trees all day or for walk-abouts. The African Grey thinks she is the boss, have to keep her away from the Macaws. The Amazon tolerates the African Grey. Yes our life has gone to the birds.....

I would love to get a hyacinth! When you get yours, you should post about how the three get along!

I would put my Macaws in an Aviary together, and then have an indoor area with separate cages and stands. I am just worried about getting another, the two attack each other, and then I can not put them in an aviary together.
I always keep my amazon separate from my macaw, she is scared of my BG.

Do you keep your BG and GW together in an Aviary?

We have a B&G that is 2.5 years old. We've had him since he was about 10 weeks old.

I mentioned getting another Macaw a couple of weeks ago. I got one of those looks from my wife that kind of says "Yea, go ahead and try it!!"

I'm sure it was that look and not the "I know where the guns are and know how to use them" look!

Just kidding, I think!!

Unfortunately we are getting to the age that it would be unfair to another bird. We will eventually have to re-home MAC. He will out live us, barring an unforeseen tragedy.

Anyhow, I'd love to have another bird or two but have to think ahead and what is best for the FID's.

Yes, these birds do live a long time. Getting a rescued macaw is not out of the question, but first I wanted to hear as many stories of macaws being introduced to each other as possible to determine if it is a good idea. Really what I want is a friend for my BG. I am still relatively young and my whole family are bird lovers!
I am sure eventually (hopefully no time soon) you will find a great home for your bird.
