Hahaha! That poor pitiful bird, Karen! Thanks for sharing, it's always great to see a photo of Princess Zoe.

LOL look at that head! So funny. I do think she's a blue and yellow cockatoo!

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
It's funny how the blue throats always seem to have their head feathers sprung up like that. Rachel's BTM was named Spike for exactly that reason, and the one I helped finish hand feeding was exactly the same way...

These guys are among my all time favorites. They are just so smart, and so loving...

Oh my, Zoe is at it again in all her adorableness! I truly have no idea how you and Karen get anything done when she is just so precious. I bet y'all just want to hold her all day:)

Valentino - Red Fronted Macaw - Hatched August 12, 2012
I am always amazed how Zoe's traits are a lot like a RFM. Valentino does a lot of the same things you describe Zoe doing. I love a lot of the things these birds naturally do. Their affection level is off the charts. I have had mini macaws that were bonded to me and were very affectionate but with Valentino his affection for me seems so much more real and not just to get something.

The head fluff thing makes me chuckle. All I have to do is look and speak to Valentino and up goes those feathers. When he is angry or upset I noticed he will only bring up the nape feathers up to the back of the head keeping the top feathers flat. I tell him he is doing "harpy eagle" LOL.

As a single person I cannot even contemplate another "like" parrot. As much as I would LOVE to have a BTM I cannot divide myself in half to give both parrots what they need. Valentino does take a lot of work but the pleasure of having him as my friend really does outweigh all the work I need to put into him.

Someday I would like to at least add one more parrot to my family but something tells me that probably won't happen. I understand it is not very healthy for Valentino to be a only parrot so I try to be very mindful that I am all he has. I do worry if I have to work a full time AND part time job. If it comes down to having to do that I will have to seriously reassess our living arrangement. I vowed never to put Valentino in a situation which is unhealthy and causes him to be unhappy.

RFMs and BTMs have a lot of similar characteristics, and they both actually come from a narrow valley in Bolivia, and they're both the only real medium sized macaws...

BTMs might be a little more mechanically inclined than RFMs, but that's splitting hairs if you ask me...
