Hello everyone.
My name is Cindy and I am a recent bird owner. I have always wanted birds and when someone I knew was giving thiers away I took them, although I only wanted one I had to take all 3.
So now I have three Sun Conures which are about 2 years old was her guess. Two of these have not been held and I am thinking since they have been housed together the third has becoming very untrusting.

I am not sure how to tame them, not sure if I should seperate them or what to do. Right now I work with them about 1-2 hour a day and have two of them at least eating from my hand. (taking a seed from my hand) but that is pretty much as close as they will get.
What do you think should I seperate them? I may end up only keeping 1 or 2 in the long run but am not sure right now.

I have been reading over many posts and have learned quit about I didnt know about birds, thank you.
I look forward to talking with you all. :rainbow1:

Welcome Cindy :) My name is Dani and I have never owned a Sun Conure, but the basics of bird taming are not really species specific. how long have you had the birds? Feeding from the hand is a goo place to start, could you give us some more info?

From what you said, it sounds like two of them are paired up, and one is kind of on the side, is that correct?

Has the third one been handled at all?

Do you know any of the genders and can you tell anyone apart?

Are the birds related to each other?

We look forward to having you here with us!

Hi Cindy, Welcome to the forums! Congratulations to you and your new additions! :)

Happy to hear you are finding useful info.

I don't have sun conures but as Dani said, a lot of general bird care applies to all species. I would definitely house your suns seperately and let them share a play area when they are out. With enough patience, older birds can become tame and astound you with their ability to learn new things.

As far as keeping them all, that's entirely up to you, but I will say, my birds learn from each other and really seem to enjoy each other's company. They all have seperate cages, even the budgies after one outgrow the other and started bullying the smaller bird. After you get to know your new friends, you'll see what works for you and them. Good luck, happy to have you join us.

Hi Cindy! Happy you joined us! I recently got my Sun Conure in June (Seems like so long ago already lol). He is my first bird. Like Dani said it sounds like two of them are paired. Like mating paired. Do you know the sexes of each. If those two are male and female I would bet that's what is going on there. I would at least separate the third from the couple. It's up to you what you want to do with the couple. If you allow them to mate chances are they'll never really be cuddly towards anybody. Do you know if they have had any kind of training at all? Step up, target training, the basic stuff. If so it could just be a matter of them learning to trust you. They're in a new home/environment so they're going to be a little untrusting of everything but each other and their cage since that's what is familiar to them.
