Orange Winged Amazon
Hi - I'm a brand new owner of Max, my Orange-Winged Amazon Boy who is 3 years old. He is a stray bird and I adopted him from the shelter. He's doing wonderful now in his new home.

I need some recommendations/advice on pellet diets.
Here is what I've been giving him:

1) Higgins Sunburst Gourmet Food Mix for Parrots (in moderation since he only picks the seeds out and leaves the rest)
2) Zupreem FruitBlend (I got a sample from the vet, he will eat this)
3) Zupreeem Small Pellets (I got a sample from the vet, he will eat this)

He loves walnuts and almonds and I will give 1-2 a day in the evening as a treat. :green2:

My question is which brand is the most natural, organic, and nutritious for Amazons?

Any information will help! Thank you in advance! :)

If strictly speaking about pellets, both Harrison's and TOPs are considered "organic" and more natural. I would avoid artificial colouring. Adding fresh fruit and veggies are also important.

I'd go with the one he'll eat. My flock enjoys the Zupreem Naturals. I understand the ATL zoo also uses Zupreem. In fact the CAG and the Macaw came on seed diets and it was easy to convert them to Zupreem along with fresh fruit, veggies, cooked egg/chicken/grains

If you are wanting to get into the more 'natural' pellets, a trick I have been using with JoJo is. I only introduce new foods in his treat cups that are on his play stand. Each stand has something different. Works very well, his first reaction, yuk, you're an idiot! Second, hmm maybe, third- 'Oh good, my favorite'. I have zupreem, fruit and natural. Tops, will be picking up Harrison's. I also sprout a seed mixture. I store everything in the freezer, you will get bugs! And you want it fresh! Same with nuts, the oils will easily spoil! I buy all my nuts at Costco, great prices.
