Can anyone tell me what are the consequences of two gcc's breeding if they are brother and sister. We purchased ours a year ago and were told that they were both males (pet shop). As it turns out, they are male and female and have successfully had their first clutch, although only two out of four hatched. We have since been told that these birds could have been from the same clutch and not sure what the consequences as we are now hand-raising the two chicks which are now 5 weeks old

These two 5 week old baby yellow sided GCC's which have been hand-fed since 2 weeks of age. For the last couple of days they do not seem as interested in their formula and their crops are not filling as they were before. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Inbreeding is how some of the different color mutations are obtained on several of the conure & 'tiel species, but answering your question of "what are the consequences of two gcc's breeding if they are brother and sister." would probably be difficult at best, simply because you really do not know the lineage of either bird ! ! !

One other thing, just because the parents are YSGC mutations, that doesn't mean their chicks will be.....here's a link that can get you started on understanding the difference in color mutations & hybrid breeding: Green-Cheeked Conure mutation colors prediction tables by The Feather Tree/ Steve Garvin

Good luck.....
