hello, I just really need to talk about this because it's seriously angering me. Yesterday, one of my friends told me that her father in law found a cockatiel outside (and good thing he did, we're in Canada, in november). This is where the problems begin.
Looking online, we saw that someone had posted a notice that they list their tiel in the same neighborhood, on the same day he found it. Now at this time of year, not many people keep windows open and that neighborhood is mostly appartments, so the odds are extremely high that this lost cockatiel he found belongs to the woman who posted the add. Now this should be a simple story with a happy ending, easy to reunite the bird and her owner.
Well no. This man owns a parakeet, and has now asked my friend to adopt his parakeet because he wants to keep the lost cockatiel. (Can we take a moment to contemplate he wants to get rid of his pet he's bonded with for years to keep someone else's bird...?)
I've been urging my friend to contact the owner of the tiel about this and talk her father in law into giving it back put she's worried about starting an argument. Now I myself don't have the contact info of this man and as this is a close friend, I know that going behind her back and contacting the owner would be pretty awkward (and I wouldn't be able to put owner in contact with the guy, but at least she'd know her bird hasnt frozen to death...) so I've been trying to convince her and I think Ill be able to since she's sympathetic and knows she wouldn't want this happening to her either.
If she refuses to contact the owner I'll try to even if I can't really do anything but I'm just so... mad... I just really needed to share my frustration with people who won't say "eh, it's just a bird, it's not like a dog or cat"...
