Green wing macaw
so we have noticed our greenwing has a thing for red.
he goes nuts over red on clothes or anything.

Is this normal or is there something behind the color red for these guys?

Because they are bright red and in the wild the color is part of what attracts them to their own species and mates of the same species.....I mean their mother and father were most likely red and they associate this color with their own early feeling of sameness, comfort, protection, feeding, love etc. They may have it programed into their genes to be attracted to red.

That part is left to be debated... :)

I wear red around my female Eclectus, she isn't acting any different towards me just because I'm wearing red. Nor my Male is acting any different towards me....BUT I have heard that before Lesleybird.....

I took my Greenwing (Auggie) to the beach today and I put him on the arm of a total stranger who was wearing a bright red tee shirt. He walked up to his shoulder and started preening the man's eyebrows. I definitely think he likde the man because of the red tee shirt.
