So I brought a GCC home 4 days ago and I've noticed that he sometimes bites his nails and his feet. What could be the reason why he does that and should I be concerned about it?
Connie bites at hers as well, but its not prolonged,Ive put it down to part of the preening routine. Always has a good go at them after her toast in the morning which she holds with her hands.......or feet!
Hi, welcome,
Congratulations on your conure.
They do clean and groom their feet. They do enjoy a wide shallow dish with an inch or two of water to take a bath once in awhile. I use a human serving dish and offer everyday, but she chooses the days she wants to .
As stated above foot and nail preening is part of their routine. However since you just brought him home it would be wise to inspect the bottoms of his feet for any sores or redness,
Bill is right worth a quick look, abd feel if any hot areas.
Don't use dowels only in a cage. Some different types snd widths are important, often people never offer an extra wide perch, snd all my birds prefer the Xtra wide one.
I' ve never stopped learning since having parrots. And I have learned lots here from other members. So stick around and join in!
Yiu need to have digital kitchen scale set to grams and weigh yiur burd weekly and keep a log book. Burds hide being sick, often weight loss is sn early indication something is wrong. And the earlier caught the much easier to treat and save them.
This is also a really great article, I don't use clickers, but I observed, I have rituals, do much in here is just good stuff, helps you understand how parrots think, she covers foid and other stuff briefly to. https://lafeber.com/pet-birds/stress-reduction-for-parrot-companions/
