I like blue crowns A little baby blue crown at Petco got me into birds and I loved him!! I tried saving up for him, but someone bought him before me. Either way, I will have one some day. Haha
I really didn't expect Blue Crowns to be doing as well in this poll. I love mine so its good to hear. What has surprised me is I thought Sun Conures would be doing better. But I just love conures in general as well.
Of course I went Blue Crown since I have two and have not had a large amount of experience with others. Except for Goldens though all the ones I knew were still babies and super gentle cuddle bugs. But I find it hard to put any species of bird on a pedestal. They are have their traits that make them special. Should have been a check for "All of the above!"
I'm in Hawaii right now and I miss my cinnamon green cheek conure named chico so much that it doesn't matter if I really like sun conures, green cheeks win.
As with most animals, they will have personalities unique to them so while one green cheek is quiet as a mouse, someone else's green cheek could be noisy. That said, some would share defining characteristics. For example, and this is just my personal experience:
1. I have a Black cap who is very laid back and quiet. Loves people and outdoors. He hates other birds though. He doesn't say words, but I've known other black caps who do. He is so easy to handle. He does not bite, unlike other black caps. When he does, he is gentle.
2. To me, Blue crowns are generally more prone to learning new words. They could be loud too.
3. In my experience, SunConures are probably the most difficult to handle of all the conures species listed here. They have very loud calls and can easily 'abuse' that power if not properly raised. As someone else said, they are quite destructive if you do not set boundaries. Hyperactive birds. Absolutely loveable but I'd consider 'advanced' in terms of handling compared to other conures. This is why so many are rehomed.
Thank you for the info, and of course it was a sun conure I found lol
I sorta thought they all were hyper active and loud.. I saw a jenday (spelling?) in the petstore yesterday, him and my bird had a screaming contest through the store.. It was hilarious.. I am contemplating ear plugs for sitting on the shoulder scream.. lol
