I read somewhere that birds can't eat raw beans and that they must be cooked in order to be safe. How long should they be in boiling water until they are considered safe?

Adzuki, mung, lentils, sprouting peas and chickpeas are all fine to feed sprouted or cooked. All other beans/legumes must be fully cooked for human consumption and should not be fed sprouted. This is because beans have a toxin in them that can be deadly if you don't full cook the larger beans.
