I have a Sun Conure who is 14 months old and he likes to chew on wood. Why?

Parrot like to chew wood because it is natural and satisfying for them to do so. Much like beavers must chew to keep their teeth trim and healthy, a parrot must chew to keep their beak trim and healthy. It's just what parrots do and is *essential* to beak health

If your conure is chewing wood he shouldn't be chewing on (like doors, window frames, furniture etc...) I suggest you offer him chewing options he is allowed to chew on (toys, blocks of bird safe wood, bird safe mineral blocks etc...). Praise him for chewing his toys and give a firm "no" then put him up when he chews things he shouldn't. He will learn eventually (it takes time and patience and consistency to train them what they can and can't chew).
