Leg rings are called what..?

So I have some birds I bred whom I put leg rings on. They are open bands (type of metal that can be bent open with pliers type leg rings) - What are they called exactly?

For example: SS Rung?

And they are not safe. The open ends snag on things and can cause injury to the bird.

They do like Pajarita says...That's why I usually remove them if any of my birds had those on.
