Hey there. This is my baby yellow sided GCC, his name is Indy :smile015:

We are completely enchanted by him. He has only been with us for a week and a half but steps up onto my arm and likes to snuggle in my hair. He already knows he has own 'breakfast plate' so that when we all have breakfast he has a mixture of fruit, nuts and veg on his plate :14:

How long was it before your birds started to talk? Im getting to know what his different sounds mean, especially the "where have you gone/ I want to come out" shout hehe

Indy's a lovely Conure. I'm glad you're going well together, with good care you have like 30 years together ahead. Take your time to read good advice from experienced parronts, like proper food (quality pellets as a base, with fruits+veggies as a support), learn to interact with Indy and teach him tricks to keep his mind occupied.
Don't expect too much in the "talking" department - conures are not good "talkers" as other larger species (Amazons, Greys, Macaws). Of course you'll learn the meaning of his different sounds, but it's not that close to the "talking" as some could expect.

Welcome! Indy is so cute, and sounds like he’s settling in well. I have 4 conures, and 2 try to talk. Conures are not known for their talking ability and many don’t talk at all. Mine are not great talkers, but they have fun and it’s always a good time to try to figure out what they’re saying :). Mine came to me as adults so I’m not sure when they would have started talking.

Welcome!

What a precious and gorgeous little darling. Baby conures are the cutest!

I'm guessing this is your first bird, so I'll chime in on some of the advice above. I usually offer these links to brand new folks. Here goes...

Here's some reading on bonding for you.

Most of us swear by our avian vets in the event of health concerns. I don't know where you are, but here are some links. I only have USA info...

In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.

What's the diet? That's critical for health. Too many are kept on seeds or other poor-nutrition things. They need veggies, legumes, grains... pellets are a good staple. Here's what I use.
Harrison's Bird Foods
I feed Harrison's, supplemented by fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. My bird loves the pellets now, but to get him converted, my avian vet suggested putting pellets out all day, and putting seeds (his old diet) out for two 15-minute periods a day. That would sustain him but leave him hungry enough to try new stuff. I presume the same technique could be used to get him to eat other healthy stuff, like fruits and vegetables! My guy was eating pellets in a couple of days, and now I can feed a good variety of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day. I also like Harrison's via mail because I never have to worry about out-of-date products.

Since you're a new parront, I'll just drop you a note about avoiding teflon pans, which are lethal to birds when even slightly overheated.

Oh, and about talking... there's no predicting it. The Rb was mumbling a few things at about 3 months. By a year he had a few phrases, and he usually maintains a repertoire of 15-20 phrases, noises, fake whistles (rit-roo!), etc., although they change... stuff comes and goes.

I'm glad you're here!

Hey guys! Many thanks for the welcome. He is my first Conure but not our first bird :) We also have some parrotlets and a Kakariki. A good friend of mine has a Conure and I see her a lot (which is how I ended up desperate for one of my own). Hers talks really well!! He shouts her name and asks for sweets!

Im in the UK and unfortunately where I am we really are struggling for avian vets. I know where there is a good specialist though should the need arise, it's just a long trip.

We feed avian specific seed mix and fresh fruit, veg and nuts every day. It's what the breeder fed and recommends and also what my friend feeds hers. Ive looked into the pellets and I can see the reasons people recommend them though.
